What did you do in the garden today?

Boy, that looks like the meat will just fall off the bones. I bought a very nice pressure cooker for Dear Wife about 5 years ago. It was normally priced over $100, but I got it on a Black Friday sale for half price. I don't know anything about pressure cookers, but there was a lady there at the same time I was and she was loading up 3 of those pressure cookers to give to her daughters. I asked about the quality of that cooker and she told me that it was a very good one, which is why she was buying them for her daughters.

Long story short, Dear Wife is from the Philippines, knows her way around a frying pan and wok, but not so much ever dealt with a pressure cooker. After 5 years, the pressure cooker is still sitting in the original box, unopened, never used. If anyone in our family shows any interest in cooking, I'll just give it to them. Too nice not to be used, too valuable to be given away to someone who does not want it.
If you like hard boiled eggs, it is worth opening the box just for that. So easy to peel! 5 minute pressure cook, 5 minute rest in the cooker, 5 minute ice water bath. Perfect! And they make great rice cookers!

@WthrLady , I agree with your sentiments about our ramblings in general, but I think we need to be careful about those 3rd rail topics like religion and politics. Some of us have very strong opinions, and when shared, they may color how others see us and not necessarily favorably. If I talk about my vote the last election, half of you will think I'm crazy. That's why I don't do FB. Too much antagonism. We can all agree on plants and chickens. :love

I’ve stored butternut on the covered porch August-January temps ranged from 90-20F and they never showed signs of rot or damage.

I have successfully stored buttercup squash in our unheated, but attached, garage. The buttercup squash does well for months, but if it freezes, then it will go bad when it thaws out unless you cook it.

I always store my buttercup squash in 5 gallon buckets. It's guaranteed that the squash will eventually freeze in our unheated garage, and then if they thaw out and start leaking, everything is trapped in the bucket. Pretty much take the bucket out to the compost pile at that time.

Of course, the idea is to eat the squash before it freezes, but certainly before it thaws out and turns to a wet mush. Frozen squash tastes perfectly fine, but our freezer gets filled up with other stuff before the squash has a chance to be considered.

:lau Don't be talking about replacing Dear Wife's rice cooker. Even after 30+ years of marriage, I still prefer sleeping on the bed!

I'm not... But having had a friend who housed international exchange students, and a rice cooker in my kitchen in college (had a Korean roommate named Tom who always kept his going and my husband-then boyfriend would get in trouble for emptying it after coming in late from partying), I can tell you they work just as well and keep warm for 8 hours.

I pressure cook quiches, beans, ribs, cheesecakes, whole FROZEN chickens, all kinds of stuff. I can cook very well with traditional tools, but my instant pot makes so many things easier.
