What did you do in the garden today?

Recently I purchased an Orbit manual water timer from my local Fleet store. I paid $6.48 for the unit at the store. I took it home and before I used it, I did a quick price check on Amazon to see if my local store was close to the Amazon price.

 You might not believe this, but I found the exact same Orbit model number selling on Amazon for $149.00 and another place listed at $129.00! I showed Dear Wife the product listing and she could not believe it, either. I have no idea why online these units were selling for so much, but the next day I went back to my Fleet store and bought the remaining 2 units they had on the shelf. For less than $20 at my local Fleet store, I purchased about $450 worth of water timers listed on Amazon!
Individual sellers on Amazon can set whatever price they want. Especially for thing that are in high demand.

From tomorrow it will be another 4 rainy days (sigh), so the tasks today are harvesting flowers and veggies again.

High season for snapdragons, roses, carrot flowers and sweet pea

carrot flowers, they will flower in the second year, but those are "recycled" from supermarket carrots that we bought in early spring, just cut the head and plant them into the soil, in summer they will offer very pretty flowers for arrangement.

Also wondering about the pear shape of some of the cucumbers. These are from the same plant.
Wow, the only time I have seen that is when a cuke is growing through the fence. Did this one do that? Or, is it possible it was pollinated by a lemon cuke?
We really like the bravecto tablets you give every 3 months. Now they also have a topical that is cheaper that the bargain spay/neuter vet's office here will apply. Works great for our country dogs.
Do you mean that Bravecto now has a topical? We loved the Bravecto tablets for our late dogs, but Lily (our current foster) can't have it because she has a seizure disorder. So we've been making do with a couple different topicals, with mixed results.

Oh, forgot that I have a question, for anyone who has done pressure canning with an Instant-Pot? Do you recommend it? I came so close to buying a fancy one today, that supposedly does pressure-canning, cooks rice, and does air-frying. I would love one appliance that can do all that, but at $200, I talked myself down and decided I should do more research. Then chatting at the checkout, the cashier said there were a lot of cases of them exploding!

I have also almost bought one, but the reputation for pressure canning is really not good, so I didn't go for it.

Not on the fence and no other cuke plants nearby. I think I got a couple that were that shape from that plant.

Yes, Bravecto now has a topical too. I think the vet office has to apply it. It was $35 for 3 months vs. $50, I think, for the tablets.

I went old school and bought a Presto brand stovetop pressure cooker. I can water bath can and pressure can in it. I’ve made large batches of cooked beans using pressure cooking. I’ve pressure Cooked a whole chicken in it recently -once it got up to pressure, instructions said 10 min (I added 2 min bc it was a large homegrown Cornish X), so about 25 min once I turned on the burner until pressure reduced for a fully cooked chicken. I feel comfortable with it bc there is a rubber stopper that seals, but would be the what gets pushed out if pressure too high.

I try REALLY HARD not to buy things from Amazon anymore for several reasons but I will probably renew my Prime because we watch a lot of Prime TV. For everything else, I try to buy local unless I absolutely HAVE to get it from Amazon.
ME TOO!! If I can find it local or close to it, I’d rather give my money to the local economy. Recently I was in the market for an item, which I could buy from a licensed dealer or online. I researched this category online and narrowed my choices down to a particular few within same brand/make. Then found where the dealers were within driving distance. I called 3 of them, and one was the best deal and had been a dealer of this make for 40 years. So, I drove to get it from that dealer. The other reason I did this was because it is an item that is packed well from the factory, but gets put onto a pallet to go to dealer or distributor. If I were to buy online then my individual item gets shipped and possibly thrown, dropped, punted…etc en route to me. I’d rather get it off the pallet and place it in my car to drive it home

Another reason I always price check. Amazon is often not the best price.

ordering bulk packages of mower belts, filters, and spark plugs from Amazon.
But, then again, we have found this to be true too. Multi packs of boring, but necessary items are easier to find for good price on Amazon. Not always, but always worth a check.
