So sorry, that must have been awful.![]()
Always our favorite I am sorryI feel a lot of guilt... I really thought they would be fine since they had places to hide. The hardest part is not knowing which chicken(s) did the dirty deed.
This particular chick was an Easter Egger but it had unusually long, Silkie-like fur/fuzz. It was so adorable... I'm really bummed about losing her. I imagine she would have been beautiful.
I really need to get into m it to the garden and bring all the ripe peppers in. There are so many of them. I am not sure what to do with all the hot peppers honestly. I am thinking I'll just dehydrate and vacuum all them for later use. I might turn some into a spicy chili powder even for seasoning food. There's at least a bushel of hot peppers...

I've seen this a few times. Do you know the reason why hot peppers help? All those peppers in the freezer from last year... Maybe I do have a use for them?I give my chickens dried hot peppers mixed with mash in winter. they lay more eggs in winter if supported by hot peppers. they are also beneficial to their health.

It is! My neighbor made it for us & I adore it! It's the perfect bench for the garden & then in the winter we bring it in & use it to take off our snow boots. Is that bench all red cedar? It is beautiful, as is your harvest!
First, chickens do not taste the heat - they lack the necessary taste buds. I try to avoid giving them whole peppers though in case their skin and eyes are sensitive to capsaicin like ours. I use ground pepper (cayenne pepper powder) and add it to their feed once in a while.I've seen this a few times. Do you know the reason why hot peppers help?
