What did you do in the garden today?

Can you tell me about that tire planter? It's beautiful. Type of paint? Did you cut the rim out? What did you cut the rim with?

Made more seed tape this weekend....lettuce and carrots, carrots alone, lettuce alone and lettuce and flowers. Total of approx 75 ft. of seed tape finished of those types. I'll keep making seed tapes all season long until my fall/winter crops are planted, then it will time to start it all over again.

Hope to finally get my sweet onions, garlic, broccoli and asparagus planted this week. Also hope to get my worms seeded into the garden this week.

So, truth be told I haven't been out in the garden since Saturday, but on Saturday I dug myself a flower bed!

This entire area was grass and nasty roots. My entire body hurts lol but I'm excited to get back out there!

Got about 25 ft of sweet onion seed and also garlic planted this evening before a big storm hit, rain and ice, then just rain. Very nice spring storm, but it ended my cool evening planting session.

Got ashes placed on the garden, all the flower beds and around the peach trees today. Also got old straw and cow manure compost spread around peaches and in flower beds also.

Got more taters planted, this time in the compost bin, which is about a foot deep in composted cow manure right now...covered those over with straw, will be also adding leaves and more straw to that.

Got the worms seeded into the garden and used some of their compost, along with potting soil and chopped oak leaves to cover the onion seed tape.

Bagged up two 50 lb feed sacks full of cow compost and chicken compost to take to a nice lady from whom I got some leaves this fall...also snagged a few pumpkins from her. I took her a dozen eggs the other day.

Was pretty pleased to see the number and size of the worms already in the garden....very big, healthy worms that are very busy on the leaves and wood chips in the garden. They make those worms I ordered look like baby worms. I've been tilling that garden space for many a long year and have never seen that many worms in that garden and I only raked back that one long row....there were more worms in that one row than I've ever seen in the whole garden all those years.

I can't WAIT to see how this BTE garden does this year...if those worms are any indication, I will get to see some good things there.

On the tire we used spray paint that is used to paint plastic. It went for about four dollars a can at Wal Mart. One can will do one 16 inch tire if you only paint the outside. The detail work was done with acrylic paint and brush.

. I just used a couple old tires laying round the property. I cut them with a boxcutter knife. I can get all the tires I want for free at tire dealers.
