What did you do in the garden today?

No, but looks interesting. Seed counts are lower than other sites per package, it appears…but only $1 per package, so it makes sense. Great option for those just getting started and trying things out and for those with smaller gardens that need a small number of seeds. If you red FAQ, it appears 1 person operation, with maybe some help occasionally. They buy bulk seed and divide up and repackage, beginning in Aug of previous year. But, there are very specific laws regarding selling seed, germination rates, etc, so no reason not to try them out.

Seeds counts are lower? I'm actually getting 45 seeds per package of Cherokee tomatoes when other sites only give 25 seeds. I'm sure it varies for each plant variety, but I was shocked at the seed count being high as it is.

Good frosty morning here gardeners. I woke up to 12F this morning. It's now up to a balmy 16F. Total snowfall is 5 inches. It was easy to cleanup. Regarding your perennial herbs @Sueby: definitely get them into the ground. Yes keep the rosemary in pots, but thyme, sage, oregano, lavender and chives will all overwinter if planted in the ground. My parsley keeps re-seeding itself so it basically acts as a perennial. One thing to remember if you don't have any snow cover, mulch the herb beds to help protect their root system. The lavender I have in pots are overwintering on my front covered porch. They only last one winter around here if the pots are left in the garden. However, the lavender in the herb garden beds are doing quite well. The impatiens I brought in for a second winter are getting pretty big. They are still blooming too. I'll need to find some more large pots to transplant them in the Spring. Nothing else going on in the garden. I do need to find the time to go through my leftover seeds and determine which ones are still viable.

of the ones I checked, they were lower. But, as I only checked a few, I'm sure it varies.

Will Oregano fight with my Dill if I plant them in the same large area, or will they cohabitate peacefully?
I'd like to have all my herbs in one area separate from the garden.

Last year my dill was close to my oregano. I actually found that the dill fought with oregano rather than the other way around. The dill grew real and overshadowed the oregano. I'm pkanting dill a but further away this year. That said, they will still be in the same bed, just a few feet apart instead of right next to each other and I think they'll do just fine then.

Speaking of which, has anyone ever ordered from Baker Creek/Rare Seeds? I had close to $300 but pared it by half. Still need to weed some more before I can afford this order.

I have ordered from them before. I got their Yellow Wonder Alpine Strawberry and the Orange Master Dwarf Pomegranate and they sent a free gift of Ananas D' Amerique A Chair Verde Melon. In 2019, I got 40-something different packets of seeds from them for free. So, I don't know if I'm one to ask about anything Baker Creek related.

So far, I've only planted the strawberry and the Orange Icicle tomatoes. The strawberries were just starting their 2nd or 3rd year when we moved to TX and left them behind in TN. I did enjoy the few strawberries I got from the 3 plants. The orange icicles got a disease from the soil I bought from Lowe's or HD, so I didn't get to try them, but they grew well.

I haven't had the space to really garden until we moved to our new home back in July, so I am looking forward to this spring!

Dill doesn’t like to play with many other herbs. I would check first.

Yes... I order from them quite regularly! In fact, I just got a big order of seeds a few days ago. Trying some new things! I got like 4 different kinds of tomatoes that looked very unique and different from my run-of-the-mill sauce or cherry tomatoes. Pretty excited about those... I also got some pickling cucumbers, buckwheat, and a bunch of edible flowers.

I got the same carrot free seed package from Baker. They also sent me a red lettuce free seed package.
