What did you do in the garden today?

The good thing is that longer periods of cold usually cuts down on the bugs the following season, so those bug larvae and dormant winter forms can die!!

Waiting on last seed order. Will set up indoor greenhouse soon for seed starting in a couple weeks. I’ll start with peppers then tomatoes. The peppers need to be started sooner than last year’s start date- they were fairly small when I planted them in the garden. We got plenty, but I’m hoping for peppers a little sooner this year.
Oh, let's hope the :rantbugs die!

I have a pepper plant that I'm over wintering in the mud room, per instructions I read online. It would be great if it lives and produces habaneros for DH! Like before the middle/end of September!

I'll be thinking about starting seeds in the green house the middle-end of March, or beginning of April. It depends on when we're going away and how the weather looks. The green house is not heated, just passive solar.

SEED ORDER ARRIVED!!! :wee

Sandhill preservation - it is old school ordering, so write out order, write out check, use snail mail. But got everything but one item, for which I got a credit.

They sent 6 extra packs of seeds - most look good to me. One of them is Chicory - anyone have experience with that?

I ordered garlic also, and received bulblets. These are small bulbs, cheaper to mail. They are planted in the fall or early spring (so for me, early spring). They grow as expected and when harvested this year (irregardless of fall or spring planting), they will be essentially a single clove of garlic, usually not a multi clove bulb. So, harvest those single cloves then plant in the later fall, and the next year will have the classic multi clove bulb. What is harvested this year is fine to eat, it is just not a multi clove bulb. Each packet of bulblets was $3.50. One variety has easily over 200 bulblets (the website indicates approx 200, and my packet is packed and bulging). The other two varieties have around 20-25 bulblets (per website), but one must be more than that - it is more filled than the other one. I'll have to count and see. I'll unpack and post pics of the bulblets for educational purposes. Garlic is new to me for planting, so I am on a learning curve.

I ordered seeds from 3 places yesterday. Seed Savers Exchange, Baker Creek, and Sow True Seed. Sow True emailed me that my order is on its way!

SSE said on their website, and in the order acknowledgement email that there will be a 1-2.5 week delay. That's ok; I need them in about 6-8 weeks.

@Acre4Me, that's cool that they had bulblets of garlic. I've only seen cloves for sale, and only for fall shipment. Good luck with it; my garlic has done really well each year.

:gigYes many years ago I planted some only to discover that it is a roadside weed in my area . Blue flowers on a 18 inch wirey stem . Somewhat bitter and I don't like bitter . I will try to find a pic online to add . Here is info .https://www.cleancutproperty.com/weed-control/broadleaf-weeds/chicory/
