What did you do in the garden today?

I have the desire to start seeds, but I'm holding myself back until after Valentine's day at least. That's when I'll start tomatoes and peppers to have large transplants for beginning of May. I'm doing eggplant this year and might start those then too. I'll be getting the seed starting station in order and checking how many starter cells I have/need. I noticed today that the oldest compost pile is free of snow. I'm thinking there might be a bit of activity in the pile that allowed it to warm up enough to melt the snow that was capping it - the rest of the yard and garden are still covered in snow. I might be able to harvest some of that compost then for creating a seed starting mix.

I'm only waiting on 1 seed/plant order right now and that is from Jung's. I need to source potatoes and onions still, but planning to source them locally just as well as use some of my own sprouting potatoes from last season's harvest. I have time as those will not go in the ground until late April likely.

Lots of weed whacking yesterday and today. Only found one thistle plant so that's good - there were tons a couple years ago. It's been super dry and hitting 70 so did a full watering and fixed all the clogged drippers. Emptied out one compost bin and added that compost to a raised bed. Started lettuce and beets in the greenhouse. Probably should start more snap peas, only about 6 plants came up with the last sowing in fall.

All last year we could not finish the chicken run fence bc could not find what we needed. Finally found what we were looking for today, but only 9 rolls in stock! It is $$$ of course. But, we decided to order it bc as it warms up, everyone else will be looking for these kinds of things too. So, hopefully the order goes through and we have what we need next week and can finally complete the fence update/replacement around July or so.

Good afternoon gardeners. @jerryse glad you were seen and hope all well! @WthrLady my mom always knits/crochet’s but I can’t wear her stuff because it makes me itchy. I’ll have to mention alpacas.

Temps here are decent, in the upper 60s/low 70s. It’s supposed to be that way all week, but this is February and temps could start to warm up pretty quickly. I still don’t have my apple tree, my night blooming jessamine or the other lilac and my guess is they’ll all ship after or around 2/5 which is typically our last frost date. It’s understandable but irritating at the same time! Temps are good here, just send me the plants already!

Want to start seeds but after the frost we got the other night, I am reminded that we are not out of the woods yet until maybe end of feb / march. My guava tree is NOT happy at all with getting down to 19 degrees. Im praying it didn't kill it off completely

I keep praying my Meyer lemon will make it. All the leaves died from the frost when it was outside. I brought it into the sunroom and hoped it would bud out some new leaves. No bones yet. I am misting it daily....and sending up a prayer that it doesn't die in the meantime.

My parents had a Meyer in south florida and on the few times it did get hit with frost, it got a bit wilty leaves fell off but it always came back. Hoping yours does too.

My guava, the leaves are dessicated as hell, man I hope it didn't kill the thing, but from what I am reading on the Thai Guava it does NOT like 19 Degrees and IF it survives, it will die down to the roots, come back but take a few years to fruit again. That will suck because we get a day or two like this almost every year, and I don't need to have to keep trying to get fruit off it only to have it be killed back year after year. I guess I'll in a few months if it survives or not. If it's not then Im going to look for a more frost hearty one or consider putting it into a 15 gallon tub or something to move in / out when needed
