What did you do in the garden today?

Put down mass tray of tomato seeds yesterday. We'll see what comes up.
Results are in on planting two. Seed Saver tomato seeds are only germinating at 10-30%.
They and I have NO idea why. They say they batch test their seeds for germination rates before packing and shipping, so something must have happened after packing but before it got to me.
We'll see how the numbers go on the mass planting/transplant tray.
After that, I'll swap out the starter mix in case it's that, which I can't imagine. It's just coir and vermiculite/perlite. But it is a brand of coir I've never had before, so who knows.
I'm at wit's end trying to figure it out.
At least I've got plenty of time to catch up.
You could also start seeds on a damp paper towel in a plastic bag. Once they've germinated carefully move them to a pot. That could help you figure out if it's the coir.
Going to get down below freezing again... Grrrr... Other than some broccoli starts, I don't really have any starts outside yet. But my strawberries, blueberries, peach trees, and grapes are all flowering/sprouting. Would you cover them?

Fruit and flowers have different temperature tolerance in general; it isn't always 32F.

run my hands over the starts gently to help toughen them up like they would with a little wind.
Oh, wow, what a great idea! I'm going to do this this year.

Hello to any newcomers! :frowYes, we've been here a while, but new people are always welcome. If you have a question, just ask. Nobody was born knowing this stuff, and we all had to learn somehow.

Good to know...thank you! Based upon this information, they should be okay then? The low will be around 30 degrees. I have one peach tree that is in green tip or half inch green tip stage. No blooms on it yet. The other has full blooms on it already.

I haven't looked at the apple tree yet. It's in a different part of the property.

The blueberries are also flowering. Strawberries are flowering and some fruit already growing. Raspberries are in green tip stage. Blackberries are furthest along. They are extensively green with leaves growing like crazy but I don't think they've flowered yet.

Grapes are at green tip stage.

I have looked into these, how long do they seem to last? A season?
I bought six 10-gallon grow bags from Amazon (3 2-packs @ $11.99/each) back in 2019. Up until this season I have used them for growing potatoes. Even left a couple of them outside all winter long. They are all still in great condition. The brand I used is called Garden4Ever.

Perfect, I am going to order some-thank you!

I'm in a holding pattern right now. Water daily, count stuff that's coming up. I noticed my blackberries are coming back, but haven't seen anything from the raspberries yet. No signs from the onions or strawberries I planted either. Got my first potato sprout peaking out though and the sugar snaps are popping up. The green beans have not made an appearance yet, but we'll see. I may just plant more. I can always thin if needed.

Good afternoon gardeners and a warm welcome to the new gardeners on the thread. I bought grow bags from Amazon last year. They were ok. I also tried planting in an old chicken feed bag. It worked really well. So you can save some cash and just use old feed bags. As for leggy seedlings, mine usually are leggy but as soon as they get their secondary leaves I up pot them. They do just fine. The costs for Grow lights can add up and when living on a fixed income the cost can make your gardening expenses a bit of a burden. I’m just going to say one thing about diameticious earth (DE). It kills good bugs along with the bad ones. Just like any pesticide. I don’t use it after doing more research into it. JMHO.
