What did you do in the garden today?

Good to know...thank you! Based upon this information, they should be okay then? The low will be around 30 degrees. I have one peach tree that is in green tip or half inch green tip stage. No blooms on it yet. The other has full blooms on it already.

I haven't looked at the apple tree yet. It's in a different part of the property.

The blueberries are also flowering. Strawberries are flowering and some fruit already growing. Raspberries are in green tip stage. Blackberries are furthest along. They are extensively green with leaves growing like crazy but I don't think they've flowered yet.

Grapes are at green tip stage.
Yes, I haven't been able to test it myself but I trust that info and have seen it discussed on another forum. It's just for stone fruit though, so check the tolerance of the berries.

I came across an artist who makes these fairy garden sculptures. I fell in love and ordered a couple. I really hope they turn out well. If so, I might order a few more...

I saw something very similar in Colorado when we vacationed there few years ago- very beautiful!

I went back to the farm garden and dumped 3 5 gallon buckets of well composted chicken manure as well as a 40 lb bag, a 16 lb bag, a 25 to 30 lb bag and a chicken feed bag full of composted chicken manure. It barely made a dent in the garden. 🤣
I also spent some time busting up big clods of dirt where we planted the potatoes. I brought home a 5 gallon bucket of weeds and a few grubs for the chickens. My friend came out too and she staked the 11 blackberry plants and located 5 table grape vines that she had planted a year or so ago ( had planted 10,now could only find 5) and got those staked up too. We will need to make a trellis for the grape vines and the blackberry plants. Got home and got a notification that the raspberry plants I ordered have shipped along with the artichokes! It will be interesting to see how these artichokes compare to the ones I started from seed.
Oh, I also planted spinach, carrots, radishes ( 2 kinds), kale (2 kinds), red onions ( that I started from seed. I have 7 of them. 🤣), turnips, salad mix, lettuce, nasturtiums and a few more peas in my raised bed at my house. I have parsnip seeds soaking overnight. I’ll plant those tomorrow.
Good night y’all. 😁

Right now I'm waiting for passive solar energy to warm up the bins of soil and compost I have in the green house. Then I'll mix some potting soil. If it's supposed to be sunny, I'll leave the pots in the green house to warm up, and if not, I'll have a bunch of pots gathered 'round the wood stove.

I received my onion sets last week. Some of them will go in the ground next week, some will wait until I plant tomatoes the end of May. I have to think about planting potatoes too. I want to plant some early this year, see what happens. If the ones I miss when I dig them can survive sitting in the ground all winter, I should be able to plant them soon, right? But I'll hedge my bets and plant some now, some later.

:lau not only straw bales are not cheap but we don't have any at the moment. winter was looooong so we have to wait till the end of june for straw bales.
Straw bales are not cheap in New England either. I bought a bale last year and it was $12 or $13 dollars. I’m afraid of what they cost now.

I bought six 10-gallon grow bags from Amazon (3 2-packs @ $11.99/each) back in 2019. Up until this season I have used them for growing potatoes. Even left a couple of them outside all winter long. They are all still in great condition. The brand I used is called Garden4Ever.
How many potatoes did you plant in each bag? Did you net a lot more than you planted? I have no room in the ground to plant potatoes so thinking this might be the way to go!

Good morning gardeners. We are getting a break in the rain today so will attempt to get some more work done in the gardens. I need to clean up the herb beds. Then stir the soil in the raised beds a bit. I’ve got lots of flowers breaking through the soil. Daylilies, the fritillarias, daffodils, and tulips. The forsythia is starting to bloom and the azalea and lilac are getting ready to bloom as well. It looks like Spring finally.
