What did you do in the garden today?

Walked around n checked on recovery of the small garden after the mole came through. Weeded a bit...fertilized before the rain and picked some odds n ends for various meals we have planned :)

I am so jealous of you all. You must be in a warmer zone than me. I'm in zone 5 and my peppers, tomatoes, pumpkins and herbs are only about 4" tall. I think my melons are toast, but I wrapped their hills in composted chicken hay as a final attempt to save them. My pea plants are about 5' tall, but they haven't even flowered yet.

Lol don't be jealous! You'll catch up! I lost my squash to SVBs but started big max pumpkin and watermelon (again!) I'm in zone 8! Got a great sweet spot...til this year, one late freeze (11 hours at 28 degrees late in the season) wiped all my tomatoes and tons of others like peppers. Broke my heart I had to start from scratch (seeds) because nurseries moved starts out already for annual spring flowers :/ but I did it and stuff is filling out now instead of harvesting now lol I might have time to finish with a lil somethin. Nothing like previous years tho.

We had roasted beets and red onions from the garden last night. The kids have picked pea pods almost every day this week. Fresh tomatoes are about a week away!

A rabbit got in our garden and ate the purple bean leaves. The plants seem to be recovering and regrowing though. I will harvest mint and dill today for a cucumber, red onion, feta relish later this afternoon. Love garden produce.

Mourned the sugar snap peas today.... They have officially given up hope. The rest of the garden is doing great though. Should have tomatoes in a few days, and broccoli as well . Cukes are producing so much and peppers are all budded so not too long on them!

Our sugar snap peas gave up the ghost while we were gone on vacation. It's always a sad day but I'm going to plant more to see if I can get a fall crop this year. I tried to get my chickens to chase baby grasshoppers today. One girl did fine for a few minutes but then she lost attention and began to eat the beans which is what I was trying to keep the grasshoppers from eating. Sigh.

I'm so glad to know that's what tomatillos look like. This is the first year I've planted them and they look just like a weed we have so I wasn't sure if they had died out or were growing just fine. Glad I left them alone!

I had so many tomatillo volunteers! Today I picked the cabbage caterpillars. I actually do that every day but I can't believe how many of the bigguns I have been missing! I also checked on my shallot transplants, which seem to be doing really well. My casabanana looks like it could use a little more tlc, so I will be foliar feeding it a little later. Right now, I'm helping my son bathe the birds before we take them to the fair tomorrow.
