What did you do in the garden today?

So I have been grating cucumber onto my salads this year . We like them better this way . I use a 4 sided grate and use the hash brown making side . Cloudy day here and rain coming tonight .
I'm going to have to try that!

chop the stem end and rub it against the cut end till you get some foam out. then rinse it.
I always do this, read about it years ago.

@WthrLady sorry to hear about DS, hope he feels better & y'all don't get it.

I think I've found a couple squash bugs on the squash under the netting. I knew it would happen eventually, the netting isn't super tight. No eggs on the leaves yet, but I got 3 bugs & a nymph - I think. I'll uncover them eventually but for now it's not bad at all.

Squash bugs are terrible! We have them, they do get under the netting. I’m checking leaves for eggs. I have a mound of a honeydew melon, 3 plants in the mound. One vine of one plant is very wilty. It seems this is bc a bug is sucking the life out of it- the bottom of the vine is looking bad, and I found a bunch of squash bugs on this vine-was it already damaged before the squash bugs, or did the squash bugs cause the damage -I do not know!

SVB: I was hopeful I could remove netting over my pumpkins and summer squash. However, we found one SVB yesterday, so they are still out and about. I had dumped my yellow bowls of soapy water and did not replace them bc I was catching a variety of bugs, including bees. Not a lot, but would rather not kill any bees, plus hadn’t caught and SVB for several days. I think I will put sone bowls out on the side of garden closest to neighbor with the overgrown pumpkin patch/SVB heaven.

The struggle is real! LOL. My neighbor came over last night & he was telling me how bad the bugs are this year & was jealous of my netting. I used to get grossed out by squishing bugs with my fingers, now I almost look forward to it. With gloves tho, ha. So do squash bugs carry wilt like cucumber beetles do? Either way I'm sure it's because of the stupid bugs. One year I didn't get any cukes because the bugs sucked them dry before the vines could even grow. Man do I hate those things.

Here’s some photos
You have an AMAZING garden!!!

@WthrLady how's your DH? It took mine 7 days just to get a negative test! I'm still negative but got "symptoms" each morning but probably just my usual crud!

I literally get the ibby gibbies each time I go to squish em! I have gotten so mad a couple times I didn't go run to get a glove! But the ones yesterday were adults and I couldn't handle that! So gloves came out!

OMGeeze! I am so sorry!!! Is it weather? Critters? What's going on?
I think it's everything. I live in the high desert, southwest Utah. We've had no rain for MONTHS. I keep up with watering (and fertilizing) but...who knows what's in the water. Scorching heat, and we always have really high winds........and of course gophers, deer, various bugs, but I think they are the least of it. Everything I planted got to a certain point and simply refuses to grow any farther.

I am so sorry! That has to be beyond frustrating!
Is moving an option? Or ya staying put?
Have u tried the high tunnels?
I was told that if you let city water sit out for 24 hours in buckets that the icky stuff like chlorine will evaporate out of it.
I haven't tried it but wondered!

You should check out you county agricultural extension agency. They will have pertinent info for your area. They may even offer gardening classes.

But, each problem can be addressed, it feels overwhelming when there are many problems to address.

What has grown best? What problem is the easiest to solve? To feel less frustrated, focus on these two things to begin with. Grow the things that grow best, fix or improve at least one easy problem.

Hopefully you can have better success soon.
