What did you do in the garden today?

Does anyone know why this post appears whenever I access this thread?
I don't disagree with it (in fact I like it and totally agree with it)
It it the thread that your computer is bookmarked to?
Mine goes back to pack 1945 every time because I'm too lazy to clear my cache. I just hit jump to new each time I come in.

Wishin Ya luck on you peanuts. Hopin Ya have better luck than I had!
I bought a half pound of the Valencia Red from Urban Farmer but I'm holding onto them until the spring. It's far too hot, too late into the season, and the prolonged lack of rain just gives me inhibitions about planting them now. This will be my first time growing them though....

Went to the store today for drip irrigation supplies. Half of it was sold out. 🤷🏻‍♂️ We water once every 3-4 days so I don’t feel like we waste a lot (don’t water the lawn either), but it will be easier with an automated drip system.

Planted beets (Detroit red, some goldens, and some red/white striped ones) and carrots as well. (orange, purple…varieties unknown. Stuff from baker creek). We’ll thin them a bit this year so we don’t get mangled tiny things. (If you know, you know, right?). I’ll include a photo of our old harvest of beets that we planted in July.

Tobacco is settling in nicely now, squashes are throwing out flowers, tomato’s too. Peppers bushes out and look like they’re going to go through a growth spurt, greens are coming along slowly maybe? Buckbucks are hammering all the weeds we give them. Around 17 weeks of age now, meaning more eggs in the near future? Lots of lamb’s quarters and pursulane. No new layers yet but some are squatting when I lightly press on their backs.

Thinking of ordering 3 chicks to round out the group. Barnevelders. Maybe not a good idea?

Here’s some photos. Hope everyone is well.

That's SO COOL! I love that stuff... My great grandmother used to write for the local paper back in the early 1900s. They also ran a fruit farm so had opportunity to interact with lots of locals. Her columns were more like gossip columns... "so-and-son's barn burnt down..." or 'so-and-so has taken ill so Mrs other-person brought her a pie..." However it was super interesting to see her opinions on things like women cutting their hair short, showing their ankles, or other "controversial" matters of the day. Anyway, I'm glad my grandmother saved that stuff for future generations to enjoy.

Oh, and my DH has been a licensed embalmer for 25 years now... 😂 He works for the state Health Dept in his day job but does trade embalming on the side to maintain his license. Nice supplemental income.

I had to google embalmer, lol. never heard of that. if I wasn't afraid of dead bodies that would be a perfect job for times to come. I was considering growing flowers for ceremonies like weddings and funerals. but hot weather is a big problem. maybe I should stick to veggies and fruits.

Yep. He has the plague.
BUT he's he's normal bubbly self except for a spacey sinus headache. Keeping to himself in his room. He'll wander out eventually to do his conference laundry on the incinerate setting of the machine before he vanishes to his downstairs office. I told him he's allowed to feel like a slug and just hang out in bed. I'll throw food though the doorway like at a zoo.

Nothing you can do about it. Dang thing is everywhere it seems. (took 3 pharmacies to find a test and that was driving into the city. LONG drive and back.)

I purposely got in touch with covid positive people so that I could get an excuse for not being vaccinated. nothing. as my mind ignore the whole thing my body does it too.

hope your DS gets well soon and you stay well.

They arent bad. Much, much fattier and more oily. And since most are 2-3 years old or older when people cant handle them anymore, you get the flavour difference of an older animal. Make really good lardo and plenty of backfat. As for the pet pig thing? No pigs should be "house pets". Once they hit over 100lbs and get ornery or hormonal? You are SOL.

even my dogs are not house pets, lol. but still pets.

does their meat smell like ordinary pork? I cannot stand that smell. I don't mind smoked pork.
