It seems like every couple days I have to tie my tomatoes up higher, but they seem to be doing fine and starting blooms. My basil are still teeny-tiny - I water the garden every few days, but not sure why they aren't growing. Potatoes are looking mostly good, but a few of them look chewed-up - searched for pests but couldn't find any - I guess I'll spray them with neem oil, just to do something. Same with the poor loofahs, 3rd year of loofah failure. Beans looking good, butternut and zucchini late, but OK so far.
The current heat wave means I better pay more attention to watering my baby fruit trees and berry shrubs. If garden plants don't grow, oh well, there's always next year. But if the trees die, that's a lot of work gone to waste.
Our young rooster Rednar, who escaped from the bachelor yard two weeks ago and enjoyed a week with the hens, turned into a jerk when we caught him and put him back with the boys. He kept charging and fighting his brother Charles, until Loki (the big rooster who generally stays out of sibling arguments) would intervene and break it up. Finally, Rednar learned his lesson and hid from them, tucked into the long grass between the fence and their house for two days. We weren't sure if he was injured or just scared, so tonight we got him out of there and he was fine. Naughty boy, he brought it on himself.
