What did you do in the garden today?

After working on the truck for a while I went out in the garden. We put out two decorate solar stake lights the kids picked out at the store in front of the garden. One is a flamingo and the other is a blue pineapple. Then we all planted 180 yellow onions and 6 Mary Washington asparagus crowns. The asparagus required is to dig up the sunchokes first. I turned an entire 4'×4' bed and DW, DS and I picked out every sunchoke we could we could find - and filled a wheelbarrow with about 50 lbs of sunchokes! I found 4 more when taking the soil smooth, so while I was methodical in digging up the bed I'm sure we missed some. Oh well... just a bit of extra "weeding".

So I have a 2 ft x 4 ft raised bed that I planted a Glencoe raspberry start on one side of it. Looking for suggestions about what I can or should plant on the other side? I'm assuming the Glencoe will get bushy at some point....so I want something that can remain small or short but not let that bed space go to waste. Here are some thoughts I had about what I could put there:

  • An herb (Basil, Chamomile, or Parsley maybe?)
  • Annual flowers - Bachelor Buttons or Calendula (both may self seed), cosmos, Clarkia
  • Perennial flowers - Echinacea, Stocks, Lavender
  • Hinnomaki Red Gooseberry start - this spot gets full sun all day long. Not sure if it'd be too hot for Gooseberries?
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?

I have waited 3 hours now to chat with someone at Dish Network. Almost to the front of the line and worried power or something will go out. They've had a major data breach and my auto payment won't go through.
Hopefully my info wasn't compromised.
I just got help, it took 3 minutes I ended up waiting for 4 hours!

My DH needs to call them too. He is mad because our bill went up to $150/month. If he cancels it, they can resign him at $90/month or something dumb like that.... It's so awful the way they treat loyal customers. He tried to call them on Friday and it was a 90 minute wait. He hung up.

I keep my caning plants in one bed together so I can ground them and get more plants from them. So, I would add in something that won't get in the way of future canes. How about some honeyberries?

We dropped dish at Christmas. I was paying more for basic dish than my electric bill! And most of what we were watching is over the air anyway. The other junk we don't miss. We are now over the air and we added Netflix for $15.
