What did you do in the garden today?

We dropped dish at Christmas. I was paying more for basic dish than my electric bill! And most of what we were watching is over the air anyway. The other junk we don't miss. We are now over the air and we added Netflix for $15.
We watch about 5 channels on Dish. Trust me... We've been looking for a way to replace Dish. I've suggested other alternatives but DH has refused (so far) because the user experience elsewhere is not very good.

:old The older I get, the less I am willing to pay for all those TV channels we never watched. About 2 years ago we cancelled our TV subscription, going down to only internet service. Guess what? We never missed the TV subscription. Saved about $60 per month just dropping the TV subscription.

Saved about $90 per month in total because we dropped the $30 per month landline telephone as well. Replaced that with a QVC Tracfone special for $80 per year with 1500 mins of talk, 1500 texts, and 1.5 GB of data. That's more than I will ever use. Last year I used about 300 minutes of talk, and maybe 50 texts. Unlike the young kids, my life does revolve around the smartphone.

With basic internet, we can usually find just about anything we are interested in watching, for free. For me, it's mainly YouTube videos most of the day. For Dear Wife, it's an occasional TV series show from years gone by, free to watch on Tubi, Peacock, etc.... All for free.

One internet program I actually bought was 4K Video Downloader. That allows me to copy and paste YouTube video links for downloading. Then I can watch them anytime, anywhere, without an internet connection. There is a free version that allows you to download something like 10 links per day. I did that for quite a while and it worked great.

But I eventually paid for a lifetime license which allows me to copy entire playlists on YouTube with one click. For example, the other day, I downloaded a 25-part series on Vegetable Growing Master Class with just one click. Then I transferred those files to my Media Center server and now I can watch them over, and over, again on my big TV.

Another advantage of the full license is that you can download an entire YouTube channel if you find someone that you particularly want to watch. There are a few channels on a specific topic that I have downloaded the entire channel. Usually something like a lecture series, for example, an Anatomy lecture series for my nursing education. There was a channel just on that topic.

I don't know what the price of a current lifetime license for 4K Video Downloader is, but I bought my license on a Christmas sale for 50% off - which was about $15.00 a few years ago.

Anyways, I have since downloaded lots of my favorite YouTube videos, like gardening and raising chickens topics, and save them to my Media Center server. I consider it like recording programs to watch later - like back in the day with the VHS tapes. I only mention this program because I am familiar with it and it works for me. There are other programs from different companies that do the same thing, but I liked the free 4K Video Downloader program's ability to download about 10 links per day and found it had value to me, enough to pay for the full version with even more features and unlimited downloads per day.

I asked my hubby to go to the local farm store and pick up a bag of rabbit feed, a couple bags of chicken feed and about 20 yellow onion sets if they had any. I told him NOT to get any red or white onion sets because I already had ole of those. Well, he got the animal food correctly. He went to 2 stores to find the yellow onion sets and bought a pound of them!! Lol. Plus he bought white onion sets at the first store. Lol. Now I have to figure out where too plant all these additional onions. I think I will be building another raised bed just for onions. 🤷‍♀️
Hey, at least he tried. 🥰
