What did you do in the garden today?

You don't want compacted soil when gardening but when you're using seed starter mix it's really hard to over compact that stuff because it's generally fluffy. There is a happy medium of pressing the soil gently into the seed pots so that it will retain its shape when your remove them. You'll get the hang of it! If you moisten your soil before adding it to the cups it may be easier for you too.
Good to know on the seed starter mix. Thanks!
i also think the size of the plants fooled me. They really didnt have many roots at all. So far theyre all still living though, so 🤞🤞
DS1 bought our house and he’s not interested in having anything in the backyard, so we will be planting low-maintenance plantings for him in addition to other remodeling items
Awesome! And congrats on Project Manager! what type of place are you moving to?
Sunny and 72 today, blizzard warning to my west, fire warnings here and south of me.
Smells to high heaven out there, but I dragged myself out and planted a hickory tree, and made sure it had a deer fence, as it is alone in the hayfield.
Then I planted 4 hazelnut trees, and everything got 5 gallons of water. I cannot believe how dry everything is, and how deep the dry GOES.
Watered the flax bed and still cannot find my pex clips for the cover so I'll buy more tomorrow.
I'll need to up pot tomatoes by Tuesday. Good GRIEF.

BTW Storms for Iowa, Illinios, Indiana Missouri, Arkansas Tuesday:and Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, western Penn -Wednesday. (and places near those) Tis the season..... you know the drill.
Thanks for the heads up. I think 🤣🤣. Sigh! I think its a bit early for this, but nobody asked me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We’re moving about 30 minutes north to a house on 3 acres…..same county, but away from the city headaches…..here’s the link to my new thread…..I’ll be adding more photos and details

This update is cheating because I did it yesterday and forgot to add it to the thread - I transferred 8 lemon seedlings from our indoor grow light setup to pots outdoors. They seem quite happy!

Today we were under severe thunderstorm warnings until about 2PM, but we didn't see the tiniest spit of rain!

Thanks!

I got the idea from @gtaus . :thumbsup

Thanks for the shout out, @fuzzi.

For anyone interested, there are a number of garden related pallet projects posted on the thread Show Me Your Pallet Projects! I started that thread initially as a spin off from this gardening thread, but focusing on pallet projects. Lots of BYC members have uploaded their pallet projects and pictures to inspire you.

Anyway, lots of pallet projects on that thread like these...

And that was just some pictures posted on the first 3 pages of the thread (now over 177 pages). Lots of great pallet projects, pictures, pallet tool reviews, etc... by the BYC members found there.

There are also many other pallet projects like coop builds, goat and pig shelters, pallet furniture, etc... If you have a pallet related project, we would love to hear about it and share a picture or two to inspire the rest of us.

Again, the link is Show Me Your Pallet Projects!

Oh, it’s really hot today. The tomatoes probably like it.
I’ve sown thyme and parsley. My cuttings have died so I gave up and sown solanum torvum as well.
Tomorrow I will assemble the chick’s coop, I got the 110 waltz bulb today. I will see if Mathilda has any interest in mommying them herself, and if she does I will let her have them when they hatch. Usually she starts acting weird when she hears chicks and enters “mommy mode”.
