What did you do in the garden today?

Patiently waiting for planting season 🗓️ 🌱

I took 5 loads of run compost to the garden today. I'm estimating each load is about 1 cuft; that doesn't sound like much, but I have to be able to pick up the tote and dump it. I think I have 10-15 more loads in the run.

:old For years and years, I used a one-wheeled wheelbarrow to move stuff. That worked great, especially when I was younger with a strong back. If you have a heavy load in the wheelbarrow, it takes energy not to tip it over.

About 5 years ago I invested in a 4-wheeled Gorilla cart...

It was a great investment for me and Dear Wife. The Gorilla cart I got carries 6 cubic feet of material, or up to 1000 lbs. of load. I can load the Gorilla cart up to the top with soil and easily move it from one place to another. If I have something really heavy to move a long distance, the handle converts to a tow behind attachment for the riding mower hitch.

Anyways, you can work hard and feel good about it, or you can work easy, get more done, and feel good about it using something like the Gorilla cart. At my age, the Gorilla cart was a great choice.

The most important thing with seeds is moisture, they die if the soil dries out.

Heat mats stimulate the seeds to sprout and the grow light can be left off until the seeds sprout.

I stopped at one of local nurseries this afternoon. He said keep the dome on, with all the condensation on the top, until the seeds germinate and push up the first leaves. Then you don't need the heat mat or the dome anymore.

If you leave the dome on after the seeds shoot up their leaves, then you risk dampening them off and killing them.

As for the lights, I know you don't need any light until the leaves shoot out of the soil, but I have seen a number of people who set up their lights on a timer so chances are better that the leaves will have light as soon as they emerge from the soil - which helps prevent the seedlings from getting leggy. In any case, I bought LED Shop Lights which take very little energy.

I'm sitting in an all day meeting, trying not to fall asleep. Didn't get to bed last night until 1 AM.

I am behind on all my planting. I also SORELY need to thoroughly clean my chicken coops...and my house. I need employees. 😂

On a positive note, I think my Drip Depot order arrived today. Water line to the garden gets put in next week! View attachment 3457774
:yesss: :wee So jealous on the irrigation. One of these days…

I desperately need to clean my coop too but no can do, I told DH tonight that he’s going to have to do it this weekend. It’s been 6 months so it’s time. I need him to take down the run plastic & take out the heated waterers too! His list keeps growing. 😂

I need to vent or rant a bit. I have been trying to get rid of a wart on the bottom of my foot a plantar wart. I had some removed back in mid 1960s, They burn them off. 2 weeks all healed. One treatment. Now they put acid on them wait a week and I apply wart stick for 2 weeks. After 2 treatments doctor says gone. It is back so never gone. I told the doctor this and he says this is the best treatment. No I experienced the best treatment. I reluctantly let him treat it again. Been 3 months dealing with this bull. I told him I was tempted to burn it with a soldering iron. I bought a soldering iron with a fine tip. I plan to put toothache med on it to deaden it some and then burn it. I have been to 3 doctors over this and first 1 said a callus second one said wart and gave me a bottle of acid. :barnie
My kid had a wart in Kindergarten. When the Dr tried to use the freeze spray he threw such a fit he nearly kicked her. She was quite pregnant at the time.
I ended up putting duct tape on it for a few days, taking it off and using an emeryboard to file away whatever came off and repeat. It never came back.
Throw away the emery board each time of course.

At my age, the Gorilla cart was a great choice.
I think we'll get one next time we go to Menards. A 7 cuft one at Home Depot was $229, and I think that it is definitely worth it. Thanks for mentioning it!

Has anyone used washing soda, aka, sodium carbonate (not bicarbonate; that's baking soda) to get rid of warts? I remember hearing that you make a paste of washing soda and water, put it on the wart, cover with a bandage, and leave it there for "a while." Not sure how long.

I have a Gorilla Cart. Couldn't garden without it. It's a godsend... Definitely worth the cost.

Huh, never heard of it being used for that. It's hard to find nowadays, as is Borax. I think Wally world carries it usually though, but I try to avoid that place at all costs. LOL!
