What did you do in the garden today?

Crayfish mud tower… in a raised bed! There are 4 or 5 in this bed. Crazy crayfish.

Garlic. Planted spring 2022 as “bulblets”, which are pre-clove development. The other two varieties of bulblets I planted grew into large cloves, but these didn’t so I left them in to see what this year would bring.

A different garlic bed with 2 varieties planted in the fall. They look pretty different, height, leaves, level of green or browning leaves, etc.

All my potatoes are beginning to flower. There are 4 varieties. In this first pic, there are cotton starts planted on the left.

The 7 week old egg layer (high production type) are beginning to venture into the coop during the day. They have also been starting to eat some pellets too. Their main feeder in their brooder is chick crumble.

Just now a swarm of bees flew by me!! At first I just thought I was hearing some carpenter bees, and I was focused on my garden notebook bc I’m planting today. But the buzzing got so loud I looked up and a dark cloud of bees was flying by! They flew across my yard and then across the large farm field. Lost them at that point. Never had that happen! I hope they find a good home!

Happy Saturday y'all!

Not much happening, watching DH put the house back together, sills are replaced & mouse guards are in. He graded the yard & is now putting the edging back in & filling with stone. We decided not to plant anything in the beds. I thought it weird, but I actually like it. & why waste my time tending to decoration plants & beds when they don't feed us? LOL. It's deep shade so not much good would grow there.

The littles have integrated nicely, one squatted for me today. Boy are they pains! I go in the run to feed & water & have to be VERY careful I don't trip over them & I have to watch my back as they try to sneak out the gate! They are on me like glue. They love my tie dye crocs. :lau

I must water the garden tomorrow. Dry as a bone out there. The drought has already started.

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. 🙂

ETA: @Acre4Me - those crayfish still crack me up! I find it so illogical, it's hilarious - crayfish in the garden & not in the ocean. 🤪

How exciting!

Happened to me once. Same thing. What's that noise???

Wishing one would come by and set up house near my gardens. 😊

ONE customer at the sale today, not including the end of the block kids that wandered in at closing when I was cleaning up. I gave them each a spinner ring, a luffa sponge and some seeds.

I'll not grow for sale again. I'm done.
170 plus plants left over. I already donated a couple hundred to the local community garden and to all my neighbors to save them from the compost.

Sad to think what people are paying in town at this moment for tiny junk brought in by bonniebell.

Oh well.
This is why small business/variety dies out.
