What did you do in the garden today?

Woke up and went out to check the trap. Still nothing. 🄸
Buddy, my dog, eagerly goes up with me.
He smells the visitor's trail. He promptly waters the blueberry nearest the trap.

Checked the chickies.
Walked over to eat breakfast in the raspberries. šŸ˜Ž
I sprinkled my seeds to keep them damp.
Picked some chard to stir fry for breakfast.

Now, before the day really begins, I've got to clean up the mess from two of my bottles exploding on my kitchen counter last night. I came home late from working while still sick and found them, and I just didn't have the strength to clean up the whole kitchen. So that awaits me. 😜

wow, have you all been busy !! I have just watered my garden this morning, need to get the tomatoes, egg plant, cabbage and chilis into the beds urgently, but hubby hasn’t emptied out the pots yet ( too heavy for me, I’m not allowed any heaving lifting cos I need hip replacement in both hips, yay :( ) else, I’ve planted a ā€œsurpriseā€ rose ( cheaper) I think it’s a climbing one, don’t know what it needs…my dalias are bursting out of their ( too small) pot and they need to get a larger one, so, need to do a lot, I got 2 loads of horse manure for the plants and I told hubby to dump it anywhere except where my ( sparse) grass is growing, guess where he dumped it ( 🤪)

Well, friends, this is going to be a hard weekend. We will be shutting off the life support on my mom on Sunday. I've been strong this whole time but it's really hitting hard today. I know we all face this inevitability but it still sucks and hurts.

I've decided I'm going to build a nice heart-shaped raised flower bed for her. A pollinator garden. I'm also going to order this memorial and put it in the center.

So sorry for you loss ! I still remember losing my mom way too early, it really is painful, and no matter how old or sick, it is always too early 😬

Do you have a Home Depot nearby? A lot of the lumber I used for my run was cull lumber, 70% off.
I do. Menards has a clearance pile too. Neither will have enough lumber in clearance for me though - usually just a small rack of miscellaneous boards here. I am also very picky about selecting lumber. I want straight boards with no twists or curves and minimal knots. Also, 10 and 16 foot boards are rarely ever in clearance for whatever reason and that's the bulk of the expense in my lumber list beside drywall. 2x4 are cheap enough.

I think a finer sand on top would work best. You may even like trying different colors of sand. My niece found some purple sand one year that she put in her kid’s sandbox. That would be fun to take through especially if you had 2 colors on top of each other so you could see both colors when you raked!

Thanks for the advice. I will try a different type of sand, then. Preferably white.

I don't think you can get the Zen feeling in a square sand box sounded by weeds...............

This was a trial run. I’m going to build a better one with no weeds eventually.

We're lucky enough to have a woodshop and racks. So I shop the clearance whenever I go in and bring stuff home and add it to the racks.
But that's the stuff we usually cut down, so we can eliminate the bends and twists, or plane out the worst of it.
But for the BIG important stuff, I just search the good stuff.

Another day of the plant sale. I hope it will be better than yesterday.

Good morning all. My little break is over and it's time to get back to work. On my garden walk this morning I snugged up the bug netting on the bok choy and squash bed. I think all my green beans have raised their lazy stems out of the dirt. I picked a few asparagus stalks, then went on to the high gardens. The blueberries are doing well and I gave them and the nearby lilac shrub a little drink of water. The nighshade garden is doing well. They don't seem to need water today so I'll spot water the lima bean and sunflower seeds. Tomorrow is supposed to be mid to high 80's so I think tomorrow morning might be a better time to water. I did give my tiny hydrangea plant a good long drink. When I finally get moving again I'll be planting the remaining tomatoes, the new butterfly bush and hydrangea. I need to get all that finished up before lunch. Temperatures today will be near 80F and with more heat coming tomorrow and later this week I need to prep and install the ac units. Have a great day planting.

I made miniature ones before, three. It's fun and relaxing to just fiddle with the sand when you need to rest and want to keep your hands busy. Better than video games. :)

Yes, white playground sand, some solid borders of ground-contact treated lumber, and some pretty stones you find as you take walks by rivers and streams. Don't forget a nice bench to sit and ponder upon as you sip iced tea. ā¤ļøšŸ˜Ž

I like the idea, but my shoulders and neck are shouting discouragement at the preposterous idea of holding out a raking stick for, in their opinion, no good reason.

But the parts of me that are not falling apart like the idea. 😜
