What did you do in the garden today?

Cooling on the counter.

Tell us more about the permetrhin/water mix, please @NanaK !

I have some buckets that I drilled holes in to make worm hotels. If I can find where the yellow jacket nest is, I could put on of the holey buckets over it, then dump a gallon (?) into the bucket and run.

The mix could drain out of the holes on the bottom and soak into the ground.

Is that a possible solution?

I buy a permethrin concentrate. It's about 2.5%. I add at least 3 tablespoon to 1 gallon of water. Wait until close to dark when they are in the nest and less active. Pour on and back away quickly. Some will come up. They WILL follow you. Next day watch for activity. Sometimes you have to do it again as they nest deeply and tunnel to the side. Also keep checking the area nearby sometimes there is another entrance elsewhere.

If I have to retreat I mix 2-3 gallons so it saturates a bit deeper.
I have been stung too. I know the pain. They got my lab (passed on now) on the nose. He would not go near the well house for a long time! Weeks!

I do not recommend doing this if you are highly allergic.

@Sally PB That bucket trick would probably work and add some safety.

I have one of my raised beds completely deer proofed now. Unless they decide to jump 6 feet over the top, into the narrow raised bed. Hope not. I layed a couple of t-posts across the top to make it harder for them.

And I have a second raised bed almost done. All the framing is up, 1 inch mesh chicken wire is on the ends. Just have to rig up some removable chicken wire panels for the sides tomorrow.

I tacked up old pieces of fencing and a section of cattle panel against the sides to keep deer out tonight. I'd go out and take a picture but I'm too tired to get out of my easy chair right now. LOL

I decided to wait on the yellowjacket eviction/extermination.

1. It's been raining (will the spray work?)
2. I can't run fast to get away
3. My bite area is still itching

Another option is to use a shop vac...
