What did you do in the garden today?

It's been raining every afternoon, so everything is exploding with growth.

My Summer squash has reached the top of the stakes. I'm not sure if I will just let it droop or cut off the top and let it grow lower.

Under the melon trellis:

Pulled out the bush beans and am allowing the melons to use the space, for now:

Yes, there's a trellis under the vines!

Tomato plants are over 6' tall, maybe higher. I've been picking plum tomatoes but yesterday I picked the first ripening German Johnson!

I pulled up the last few carrots, will be putting in the fall crop soon, just have to figure out where. My flock loved the carrot tops, they were cackling like witches after I tossed the greens into the run.

Strange thing, I usually grow carrots for the swallowtail butterflies, but didn't see any butterflies or damage to the carrot tops so far this year.

Here's what I rigged up yesterday to protect the plants in my large raised bed. It's a mess, but it worked! Notice the squash plant inside the rabbit cage? LOL

My poor indeterminate tomato plants...

The determinate plants aren't too bad off, but one was pulled loose from the soil a little. It didn't wilt, so I guess plenty of roots were still connected.

Butterbush squash looking good, beans are recovering from the deer attack.

Other stuff, carrots, lettuce, beets, turnips, radishes, pepper plants, cucumbers, plus bean and summer squash seeds in the ground.

I grow dill & butterfly weed for them & the monarchs too, I have seen a couple flying around but no sign of them eating my goods & no little black caterpillars anywhere yet. ☹️ I had none last year but TONS the year before so I'm at a loss. Maybe it's just a little too early, I just looked & this pic was from Aug 20.

I had a hard time putting up a support for my banana tree. At first I had the cross section on the banana branch, but seeing how the tree was leaning I decided to support the tree stem. I wraped a rope around two other banana trees to hold the cross section in place.

Now, that I look at it, I should have left the cross section on the banana branch. I think the pipe will be touching the banana cluster if it reaches the ground.

I read that swallowtails like parsley plants, so I left one growing from last year, and it's about ready to bloom. I just looked and didn't see any critters on it, but I do see swallowtail butterflies here quite a bit.

walk around with a handful of mini nilla waffers, giving just one of them a cookie every once in a while on a walk, then to a different one. Near the end give them each a cookie. Next day, repeat, and talk to them while you walk. Day 3. Their yours.
I'm definitely going to try that!
