What did you do in the garden today?

I like the way this 5ft cage wraps tightly around the bottom of the bucket and flares up. I am going to let the suckers grow on this mochi cherry plant and top it at 2 ft above the cage. My chickens ate the bottom leaves and almost up rooted some of my plants. I had to put wire mesh around each bucket to stop them. My tomato plants will be okay once they get taller.

They first arrived here 4 years ago. They came in pots from big box stores of trees/shurbs that came from where ever they were growing and shipped in. People took them home and planted them and the beasts hatched and boom, now we're infested.

something like that happened here with onions and potatoes imported from Netherlands. they do it on purpose so that people buy their chemicals. this year onions and potatoes have triple price then before.

no rain till september here. everything stunted. I did not plant many things for summer as I know it is a waste of time and seeds. about end of month I will start from seed winter crops and a few cucumbers, zucchini and beans as they have time to ripen here. oaxaca corn also will be planted around the end of month. I tried it as a summer crop but it did not work here. they don't cope with heat well and mature faster with poor results.

I read that swallowtails like parsley plants, so I left one growing from last year, and it's about ready to bloom. I just looked and didn't see any critters on it, but I do see swallowtail butterflies here quite a bit.

Hopefully we all see the itty bitty caterpillars soon! I'm a bit worried though, I looked yesterday & didn't see any.
Man, I'm glad that those Japanese beetles are NOT here in Washington state. They sound like a real pain.

Edited to add NOT. We don't have 'em.

https://invasivespecies.wa.gov/priorityspecies/japanese-beetle/#:~:text=No, but it is established in the eastern, this, they haven’t yet become established in Washington.
They are a pain, but they are easier to manage (to me anyway) than the dang squash & cucumber bugs! Those drive me insane!
I'm definitely going to try that!

🥰 holy cow are they adorable!!! What are your plans with them, if you don't mind me asking. Pets, milk, meat, etc?

Not much happening in the garden, just plugging along. I watered yesterday & we're supposed to get some rain this weekend which is good for me, but not for most. Everything is flooded in New England. DH was working on 2 different power plant outages & both were cancelled because the rivers are all above flood stage. My coworkers with places in VT have had devastating flooding - like 4 feet of water in the house. A big mess.

Hello gardeners. It has been ages, I hope you’re all well. We are under a heat warning, hqve been for a while, so I’m just growing lettuce right now. I have a pretty good second harvest available from the last head I cut a couple weeks ago, enough to make lunch with anyway

And this is a monster head of Romaine, the leaves cover the entire top of the bucket.

Most people use them as lawnmowers, lol. They are little sheep. The wool is too short to spin but I have some other uses I could use wool for. If the breeders couldn't sell some they used them for butcher, so I guess there's that too.
