What did you do in the garden today?

Only picked one plum tomato, have been picking a dozen or more every other day.

It could be that the heat is causing blossom drop, they might start producing once the weather moderates.

No blossoms, no fruits, but some good-looking green growth.

The German Johnson were nice tomatoes, may plant them again.

I have two cantaloupes that are on the edge of ripeness, will probably be ready this weekend.

I pulled a small tulip tree sprout from my day lilies bed, then couldn't stop weeding until it looked better:

I gave all my shrubs a deep watering last weekend, each received 15 minutes of a trickling hose. Today my gardenia thanked me!

Earlier in the week I was pleased to plant peas and radishes just before a nice rain -one that was longish and somewhat gentle. It was good enough but not ideal. Not many of the pea plants from the last planting survived the heat and dryness but those that did gave me the first of their peas. These latest plantings are likely to be too late to mature but may yield something. Even a little will give us more variety late in the season.

The carrots are up. The radishes interplanted with the carrots did not survive. I don't know if it was because it was too hot, too dry, or I left the insulating board on top of the row for too long.

We are harvesting more veggies than we can eat of many kinds. That is the goal (as opposed to enough to feed us through the winter, too - maybe another year). Some is getting preserved in various ways but that is not the priority.

When I’m done working around poison ivy I take a cold shower and use Dawn dish soap. The Dawn cuts the oils and the cold water shrinks your pores so the poison ivy oils can't soak into your skin as easily.
Went to the Farm garden this morning and helped my friend ( and several other helpers ) harvest the grapes from the Niagara vineyard.
Got home and not long after that one of the grandkids accidentally let both of our dogs out of our gated yard. 😢
They’ve been gone for over 6 hours now. I’ve driven around looking for them, posted on Facebook and in a lost pets forum. Also put out articles of clothes with my husband and my scent on them as well as a towel one of the dogs slept on last night. Also put out food for them.
They are chipped and have collars on. Only 1 has tags on because the other dog chews her tags up.
This was my friend's #1 recommendation. Whenever she knows ... or thinks ... she has been around poison ivy, Dawn dish soap is the 1st thing she reaches for. (She is very susceptible so she is always on guard.)
I also hope you find your dogs soon (if you haven't already). It's been a busy day so I'm behind.

Thank you! Some one called this morning and our dogs were at their house ( 3/10 of a mile away). The dogs weren’t letting them leave the house. 😞 They even tried feeding them but the dogs were so scared that they barked ( and they have very ferocious sounding barks).
But all was good. The couple was very understanding and we got the dogs and brought them home. They were exhausted, very hungry and thirsty.

Glad this worked out. I'm sure you were worried! ❤️

Canned some peppers yesterday. Hubby wanted a few different types of hot peppers & there wasn't any room in the garden, so we grew them in a greenstalk on the back deck. They are growing so much better than they ever did in the ground in years past! I will try bell peppers in it next year too because I've never had much luck with those either.
