What did you do in the garden today?

My mom used to bake soil to sterilize it for seed-starting. I was a young child, but remember how bad it stank.

When I really want to disturb my neighbors...guess who's going to be baking soil?

Checked on my late start cucumbers they're flowering but no fruit yet. Meanwhile I have 23 tomatoes!

That's crazy, barely any difference between the two carts [Gorilla and Huntington Pro carts] except the inserts for side panels [on the Gorilla cart]. If you wanted side panels, you could easily design something that would fit your own cart, and make it out of pallet wood. Probably hold up better than whatever Gorilla charges for their special side panels they want you to buy for their cart.

When I talk about my 4-wheeled dump carts, I just call them "Gorilla" carts because I think most people know about them. I have both a standard 6-cubic foot and a bigger 10-cubic foot "non-Gorilla" brand carts that match the specs of the Gorilla carts but at a deep savings in price. I'm sure the Gorilla carts are great, but my off-brand carts were on sale for a lot less. I think people are paying for the Gorilla brand and maybe not getting more quality for their money.

I have never needed side panels on my dump carts, but it may have extra value to someone considering buying the Gorilla carts. Like you said, if I wanted side panels on my off-brand carts, I could probably make some out of pallet wood and build them stronger than what is offered by Gorilla (if they even do sell side panels, I don't know).

Without regret, I basically retired my one-wheeled wheelbarrow that has served me well for 30+ years. These 4-wheeled "Gorilla" carts can just haul so much more, so much easier, and safer than the old wheelbarrow. Even at twice the price for the 4-wheeled carts, it was well worth it to me. Dear Wife loves using the 4-wheeled carts as well. She can load up a cart with bags of mulch and easily pull it behind her. If I load up something really heavy, I can convert the manual pull handle to the tow behind hitch for the mower.

Just finished filling up another quart baggie full of frozen cherry tomatoes...

I really love cherry tomatoes. I planted about 10 plants this year and it has been a bumper crop. I have been picking ripe tomatoes for a couple of weeks now, a little at a time, but now I'm getting half an ice cream pail full of cherry tomatoes every third day. Too much to eat fresh all at the same time. I've been adding cherry tomatoes to just about everything short of my morning corn flakes. But now I've got too many.

Anyways, for those who don't know, it is super easy to wash off the cherry tomatoes, let them dry so they don't stick together, freeze them on a plate or bowl in the freezer, and then bag them up when they are frozen rock solid for long term storage.

As I write, I have another bunch of cherry tomatoes in the freezer getting ready to bag up later today after they freeze rock hard. I'm looking forward to seeing what Dear Wife will use the tomatoes for this winter. We are thinking spaghetti sauce and other pasta dishes.

I have just a bit of homemade vanilla left. Now I can't afford the vanilla beans!

I am trying to grow a vanilla orchid but not having great success. I don't think it's getting enough light and humidity. If I can get around to remodeling my master bath, I will move it into the walk-in master shower which should fix the problem. Would LOVE to get my own beans some day....

Boiling the last of the tomatoes today to can some juice.

Going on vacation to Hilton Head this weekend!

After I get back, I'll start cleaning out the garden and prepping for fall planting.

I've been getting up at 6 AM the past few days to clean the coops and get my farm chores done since the temps are in the low 60s. It's been beautiful!

I rearranged the barn this morning.
I have plums draining on the knob in the kitchen for jelly canning after lunch.
Then it's back outside for a repair and some pallet breakdown.
DH said he'd do it, but I have time and it will be done.
The garden will need picked tomorrow morning before the brutal over 100 (feeling like 110) weather comes in for the next five days.
The garden and orchard have both been deeply watered this morning so that's off the list.
And the basement walls have now been finally patched/repaired/primed and are ready for paint - that's on tomorrow's 'too hot to go outside' list of chores.
I hope it cools down for the state fair.

I guess made a pattern from a pair I have the pants I like.
