What did you do in the garden today?

In the garden today, I've already weeded the 16 x 20 bed that has okra and dill as well as the elderberry bushes.
I picked squash and cucumbers and a few bell peppers.
Then I pollinated a few of the daylillies.
Here are a few photos of the garden today...from the north looking south..daylilies in front right, spent onion bed and next a blackberry bed.

That is an okra bed where I transplanted extra plants...actually 4 rows in the 4 foot wide bed.

This is the 16 x 20 bed with dill, Okra and the elderberry bushes that were transplanted from the back pasture. They are doing great in the raised bed and are loaded with berries.

The brown is about worn off the dog but the white kilz still is very visible. The sunflowers would take up too much space in my beds, so i am just planting them along the fence. Looks like our weather is going to turn rainy tomorrow, i just hope it does not last for too long like some folks have had.
The Kilz will be there for awhile tough stuff.
The raised beds are just color spots for us at least the ones in the front of the house. It used to be our lawn but due to our drought we put plastic down with rocks on top. Then two 4/4 planters full of flowers. Fence row is great idea for sunflowers

I worked on the pond with the duckweed in it. I use the duckweed for chickens but branches and weeds were taking it over. Helped the wife transplant flowers as well. Just taking lunch break.

Plums are terrific fruit trees to have for making jelly or jam! Plum jelly alone is our house favorite, but add strawberry, fig, blueberry, raspberry, citrus, grape, or pretty much any other fruit you can imagine and it gets even better! Plum skins have so much pectin that jellies made with them almost never need any pectin extra added to gel nicely. Plums make a great base or extender to stretch other fruits you may not have in abundance. We also use plums with roasted game, birds and pork. It adds a gentle fruity sweetness and naturally thickens the pan juices into a rich scrumptious sauce. That's gourmet, man! :drool

ETA: plum juice also makes a great base for BBQ sauce. And a tasty tangy twist for homemade or almost homemade ketchup. Cook down strained plum juice into a thick "molasses" and use in sweet cocktails! I got a zillion uses for plums. :bun

I'll have to look up uses for plums next year. They are gone for the year.

That looks so peaceful. :clap
And so flat. I used to think flat was boring but after living on this hillside I'm have second thoughts. Staying vertical here is a huge challenge. Bad enough on flat land this place is dangerous. Funny I don't remember it being this hilly 17 years ago. :lau
I tried a chicken tractor here but ground is too uneven to be able to keep them in without special side bars.
I recently came across free dirt they are even delivering it free. I'm using it to level an area out that used to be terraced.

Some of my potato vines are rotting. Too much rain. Harvested some cilantro and garlic scapes. Used them with stuff on hand to make some salsa. super yummy. I used my last jar of home made peach salsa a month ago, so this will be a real treat for morning eggs!

Beans and corn looking good in the BTE orchard. Planted some beets and swiss chard after treating it with a "seed starter" soak. (vinegar, water and a bit of dish soap.) This concoction is supposed to speed germination. we'll see. I also used it on cilantro, and New Zealand Spinach.

This morning I transplanted my back up toms and cukes. The spring planted ones all suffered from our relentless rain fall.
This time Used oversized planter pots with caster wheels. I can roll them if needed out of weather conditions unfavorable for their well being.
Now we just might have fresh cukes and toms up to the first freeze.
:fl
It just rained so hard I ran faster than I ever have and wheeled my babbies into the garage overhang! Haha

Wow, that is impressive! How long have you lived there?

Pardon me but I seem to be rather green with envy!

I am on a city plot. Not even half an acre. :hit

Today my old bones said pulling more bind weed was not going to happen.
I went and got the weed eater out. Last year I got a small battery powered weed eater. Not good for heavy stemmed weeds but did a nice job on surgical removal of bind weed near flowers.

The Shepherd and i went on an adventure today. I saw a pair of dog runs advertised on Craigslist, and decided i need them for the guineas that are coming and maybe some chickens. I set off, and in less than 2 hours i was there and had them loaded. Somehow, my GPS told me the wrong directions and i ended up lost with my phone down to 10% battery! I am new to the area, no map... so i got a map at the visitor center and a phone charger at Target. By the way, the Shepherd managed to throw up all over the front seat. She never did that before. Anyway, i did make it home in the rain which has broken our drought. Have not had rain since i planted the grass seed and it is about 3 inches high. So i never did a thing in my garden, but what the heck i have runs for birds!
