Rained/raining again tonight. At least I'm not running up a water bill on the garden! May have to swim to pick veggies in the morning, or start on an ark. I bet I could sell a lot of tickets to folks around here to get on that ark!
Neighbor next block down had the city sewer line back up and flood his entire lower level on about June 14. It was caused by a blockage in the city line. Guess what the city did? Claimed their legal immunity and paid for drying out his house, sweeping out the "debris". Nothing for cleaning or removing and replacing contaminated sheetrock, carpets, belongings, and making it safe for habitation. NOTHING! Everyone around here ( well, a lot of us) is livid with the injustice of it! I've can't even talk about it now as it makes me so very very angry.
Anyway, took him and his family some tomatoes and cucumbers and green beans from my garden, along with some canned veggies I've done this year. He's a single father of three girls, youngest about 13. They were getting some things gathered up for the girls to stay with grandparents while their father sets the house to right. Those girls all looked at the jars of canned tomato sauce and such and wanted to know how it was done. They'd never seen home canned goods before! So I'm going to have them over sometime next week to teach them all to can! Not sure who's more excited; me, them, or their daddy.
