What did you do in the garden today?

Rained/raining again tonight. At least I'm not running up a water bill on the garden! May have to swim to pick veggies in the morning, or start on an ark. I bet I could sell a lot of tickets to folks around here to get on that ark!

Neighbor next block down had the city sewer line back up and flood his entire lower level on about June 14. It was caused by a blockage in the city line. Guess what the city did? Claimed their legal immunity and paid for drying out his house, sweeping out the "debris". Nothing for cleaning or removing and replacing contaminated sheetrock, carpets, belongings, and making it safe for habitation. NOTHING! Everyone around here ( well, a lot of us) is livid with the injustice of it! I've can't even talk about it now as it makes me so very very angry.

Anyway, took him and his family some tomatoes and cucumbers and green beans from my garden, along with some canned veggies I've done this year. He's a single father of three girls, youngest about 13. They were getting some things gathered up for the girls to stay with grandparents while their father sets the house to right. Those girls all looked at the jars of canned tomato sauce and such and wanted to know how it was done. They'd never seen home canned goods before! So I'm going to have them over sometime next week to teach them all to can! Not sure who's more excited; me, them, or their daddy. :wee

Awful on the backed up sewer. Not sure if he has a back flow device hooked up to the sewer line or not or if it would have even helped. If he didn't he may want to look into it. It may stop that from happening next time.

I hope to get up and at it tomorrow, supposed to be a nice day. May get some gardening done, may finish the carrier i started to make, might even string fencing. That is what DH was getting ready to do when i called him today to pick me up from the scene of the wreck. If i had waited a minute longer to call, he would have been out of reach as he does not take his cell phone out in the woods. I don't know how i would have gotten home then. Life is odd.

It always helps to remember that some folks got it worse than us, no?

I've been saving a brand new case of quart jars, for I don't know what. Guess now I know for what. :ya
I pickled tons of cukes from the rain damage. We will be burned out on pickles in about 3 months! Lol.
You can never have enough jars!:thumbsup
