What did you do in the garden today?

This is my friend Kevin. He uses these great small chicken tractors on his holding. He uses hem as small coops and as broody/chick coops.

This time, when he needed a new one, he decided to film and share it.
Share and give a like to him if you watch it please :)

Nice build, and LOVE his shop!

G’morning gardeners. I have to get the kids outside to pick lemons this weekend. Hubs will take a few bags to work, the rest we’ll juice and freeze in cubes. We’re supposed to have a few nice days and then it’s going to cool off and threaten rain in time for the holiday weekend. Figures. I’ve been saving coffee grounds, bread, veggie and fruit scraps and I might have enough to put a thick layer in the raised beds if I raid the unfinished compost too. It’s far too early to trim yard stuff for greens. That’s about it for me right now.

I put some row cover over my "herb" garden (no herbs in there right now) to protect the leaf lettuce from frost.

Checked it today:

Leaf lettuce on left is doing great, collards in the middle doing nicely as well, and my evening primroses on the right are good and green...but so were weeds...

After weeding:

All the weeds and their roots went in the chicken yard, where they were appreciated!

I'll cover it up again tonight.

I find row covers to also be helpful keeping the deer and bunnies out! Sneaky little devils!

My dh had a check-up today, so I took the day off from work. After his appointment I mailed packages, filled up the car with gas, picked up a few items.

When I got home I headed outside, to do something in the yard. It was about 50°F, good outside working weather.

I decided to tackle the southwest corner of our property, next to the woods. A tree fell over years ago, and the vines covered it up, until now.

From November, still green:

Slightly different angle, this afternoon, see the tangle of growth?

The ground was covered with vines and briars, leaves and dead rotting wood. My neighbor's trees on the right side of the fence had vines and branches trailing low, catching in my hair as I worked. They're all trimmed back, now.

I kept finding small stumps, mostly by tripping over them. I managed to saw the majority of them down to the dirt, a couple that need more attention have been marked with red flags.

All the dead wood is now in the bottom of my new raised beds.

The tree in the corner of the yard is mostly rotten, may just see what a hatchet can accomplish...another day.
Part 2, Saturday:

Weather today was mild, mid 50s. I headed outside to work more on the southwest corner of the yard.

Those are wisteria roots ⬆️⬆️⬆️

Each of those roots had to be cut underneath as well as on the ends. There were a lot of them!

Here's a huge root I uncovered, and removed:

I also cut more vines that were hanging from my neighbor's trees, raked everything away from the fence, and sawed more than a dozen stumps, most of which were about 2" wide.

The red flags mark the last two stumps I need to get.

Part of the dead tree trunk broke off and I took it into the chicken yard. I peeled off the bark, exposing insects, yum!

Wisp came to visit. He's one of the ferals I am hoping to TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release).

The Dominiques were intrigued...

Five hours later...I'm tired, but it's a good tired.
