What did you do in the garden today?

we had a lot of rain. 3 of 16 coops got partly flooded. I threw some wood ash over mud. luckily I have ducks there. I'll ask a couple of friends to collect ash from their stoves to put more then I'll put sand in the lower part of the coops. they are sloped so I hope when I level them they will not flood again.
Why do you use wood ash? Like what exactly is it supposed to do *
Wood ash and water can be highly alkaline and burn skin, I never thought about putting it in a wet coop. You've never burned your animals?

Only gardening now is in my dreams. :D
I'm kind of enjoying the break from hardcore gardening. Carrots, kale and Brussels sprouts are all that's left, and they are no-maintenance plants. The sprouts won't make sprouts, so the leaves'll be cooked greens for me or treats for the chickens.

Edited to add:
I just went out and pulled all the yellowed leaves from the kale, and pulled up a couple of small Brussels sprout plants and gave them to my little ladies. I'm not letting them out to free range today, so at least they'll get a little bit of greenery to eat.

I inventoried my seeds today. I tossed several packets that were old and made a list of what I have/have to order.

I found a couple of packets of beet seeds, and I am not a fan of beets. I plan to buy some beet and turnip greens at the store tomorrow, give them a try. Maybe I'll grow them for the greens. And maybe try beets -- again -- to see if my tastebuds have changed.

Turns out, I don't have as big a list of "have to orders" as I thought I'd have. Which means I might try some more new things.

worked more on the bathroom today.
I am getting SO tired of this project. The final texture went on the walls yesterday. I filled any missed bits before and re-textured those bits first thing this morning.
I've let it all dry all day long.
Tomorrow after shots and errands, I MIGHT get to sanding it down lightly and sealing/priming it. Then the whole room gets two coats of color.
Today , I did a LOT of pick up as tomorrow is trash day.
I also finished painting the faux hinges on the barn door, to include installing screws (which needed painted black and sealed). I cleaned and sealed the knobs and installed those.
Washed the glass and re-made and installed the wood pieces that hold that in.
I also wiped down the linen cabinet and installed at the new, but old looking, hardware.
Phew.
DH helped me move the bench and the linen cabinet from the basement and garage into the front room so we don't have to do that later in the cold and rain. I promise, the day I'm ready for them will be miserable. (Except now it won't be. as they're moved inside.)

All that and I had time for a noise triggered anxiety attack and got ham and beans on the stove. LOL.
Please excuse handle. It's on temporarily. I need longer screws - black ones.

I love beets, just can't get them to grow here.

When I tried again this year I wound up giving the greens to the 🐓🐓🐓🐔🐔🐔
