What did you do in the garden today?

I'd like to get a new (used) car before I retire, but there is nothing I want. That shut of stuff drives me nuts. & like y'all said it's harder & harder for regular people to work on stuff - my husband does all the work on our vehicles now, not sure he'd be able to do that with a new(er) car.

It is coooold out there. Glad I don't have to go out there today except to collect eggs!

I will see, the first hip did not go es well as hoped, among others cos the wonky hip was impacting the rehabilitation of the replacement hip, I just have to wait and see 🤷🏻‍♀️
Oooh! I hope this one is a smoother experience! Maybe you’ll be able to plant a fall garden, or oversee the family planting it, and you can enjoy the harvest.

This topic may be controversial but that is not my intention, Information only. As adults we can have different views and still be friends. Topic is imidacloprid insecticide. I found a video where a guy used the liquid on his dog to kill fleas. Further research found it as a ingredient in dog chews for fleas. Picture of two bottles with different labels same ingredient but different strengths. I used it on a squash trap crop to control pests. Worked well. I did not eat the trap crop I decided to be cautious. This is a tool to consider. Do your own research and make up your own mind.

It was so cold here the EVs wouldn't run, wouldn't charge and lost capacity when they did try to charge.
This made our local news. People were in long lines at charging stations. They said in some locations they could not charge at all because of the cold. People were having to call for a tow. That would be a headache!

I don't think it is a concern for anyone here unless maybe high in our mountains. I still do not want one myself!

I hope my vehicle lasts until I die because I don't want all the fancy stuff - especially the *disable if it decides you aren't driving safely* thing mandated for 2026. I live in deer country, for one thing. It is unlikely though, if I am fortunate with my health. She is already a few years older than 20. In salted roads country. Running good but we already can't find a reputable place willing to do body work on her. "There is nothing behind the quarter panel solid enough to weld to," they say

Use on trap crop sounds like a good idea. Could grow trap crops in the same area...Stays in the ground for a while. Organic is 3 years without certain chemicals.

Growing without chemicals is very labor intensive.

So here is another thought on winter squash pests. This is a systemic that lasts 3 months. In theory you could do a soil drench early in the season and harvest after the 3 months. I need to think on this. No vine Boers, squash bugs or cucumber beetles.

On the topic of vehicles, we're literally going through this right now! My 2014 Explorer got totalled last year & we just replaced it with a 2006 Expedition (Ford people here 😉). My husband went to carmax yesterday & sold his 2015 F150. He is now looking for a 1992-1997 F250 or 350. We need crew cab & they are hard to find in decent condition at a price we can afford. But once we have it, he'll be able to fix anything on it. I can't stand all the electronic/digital components on new vehicles now. Too much to go wrong & nothing is made with quality anymore it seems. We're in our late 30s & joke that we're in our mid-life crisis, but instead of going out & buying brand new fancy vehicles, we're going old school. 😁
