What did you do in the garden today?

My mom really loved Rose of Sharon. If I could have dug up her tree and brought it home, I would have... The new one I bought is to plant in memory of her.

Another thing that should grow like mad here, but refuses, no pussy willow or forsythia either.

I had forsythia here, but it got invasive so I took it out within a couple years...it needs room to spread out and ramble.

I ordered feed online at runnings and had them load me at the front door. I didn't even hear the chicks, but they had a sign on the door that they were in.

I'm getting 4 new chicks, very soon ♡

Today I cleaned up my greenhouse, to prepare for seed starting (and moving indoor seedlings out). I also planted my greenhouse greenstalk with lettuce greens, and opened the vents to cool it off in there

Me three! Lol! My nasty neighbors stopped walking all over my property after they noticed them.

That is definitely a plus. How rude!

I went out to pull a few carrots earlier today. I noticed carrot foliage laying over on one end of the bed. I believe a vole has made a meal off a large section of my carrots. Dang vole! Of course he didn't bother the onions and garlic on each side.

I went ahead and pulled most of the rest, cleaned them up and put them in the fridge.

Tomorrow I will finish weeding it out and add some straw.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of voles?

Not exactly a garden chore, but we moved old carpet from the backyard to the slope in front. Last year I spent THREE days cutting back poison ivy, honeysuckle, and other weeds that had taken over the slope in front of the house.

I put carpet on the south side of the slope two years ago, and it killed all the vines and weeds, something that even RoundUp couldn't do.

I want to put some sort of ground cover over the dead area, soon. It's a process.

Obviously we don't have an HOA here.

My feral cats keep mice and voles under control.

I planted the sprouted columbine seed in a big pot. Foot is still too sore to do much garden stuff but I want to garden. I have new idea of grafting cucumbers onto wild cucumber. It is an aggressive vine with no edible fruit. I usually try to kill it. They are not bothered by any disease or pest that I have seen. If it works it could be a plus.

We have lots of ferals and some that the owner's let roam. I see cats patrolling daily. I also saw lots of bunny poop today looking around. I think these cats are duds.

I used to have a Jack Russell and never had trouble with moles. I also had 2 retire hunting English Setters that would fine them and dig them up! Sadly, these have passed on.

If I were not so worried about the foxes, I'd turn a couple hens loose on them. I bet they'd dig them up quickly!
