What did you do in the garden today?

I went out to pull a few carrots earlier today. I noticed carrot foliage laying over on one end of the bed. I believe a vole has made a meal off a large section of my carrots. Dang vole! Of course he didn't bother the onions and garlic on each side.

I went ahead and pulled most of the rest, cleaned them up and put them in the fridge.

Tomorrow I will finish weeding it out and add some straw.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of voles?
VoleX. Safe to use around chickens, pets and in the garden. Only designed to kill voles.

Have you used it? I tried the mouse X in the house and they haven't eaten it. I moved it to various spots, it's been about 5 years and it's still there. 😂 At least the cornmeal and baking soda got eaten.

In my experience, not an expert, the rodent baits are for specific rodents. I used mouseX with no results until I discovered they were voles. I used the VoleX and it worked. Sometimes what we believe is a mouse is actually a small rat, etc. If you get the correct formula, it does work. In rural and semi rural areas of course there are always reinforcements breeding in the fields. Wah!

Yesterday was spent cooking Middle Eastern food for lunch with oldest Gran kid. She made naan bread and kofta kebabs. I cooked up a vegetable masala to go with that. Today I’m trying to get caught up on some outdoor work, and making bread. The bread is on its second rise, I finally buried the red hen, did a little cleanup in the old corn patch and sprayed the peach tree with neem oil. I was able to pull up the tomato cages in the corn patch I used for the squash plants. This afternoon I plan on working on the big garden while I let the hens roam about. I ordered a lightweight battery powered cultivator to help break up the first 3 or 4 inches of garden soil and to mix in some compost. There’s just so much gardening space now this will help me get this done quicker. Tomorrow is supposed to be a washout so I’m just trying to get a handle on things today.
