What did you do in the garden today?

It depends on the person. Not everyone has issues with nightshades or any particular family of plants. Elimination diets help the individual figure out their own triggers because they are not the same for everyone.

Also, I haven’t found any evidence that sweet potatoes are anti inflammatory. Good for you? Absolutely. I would like a source on the anti inflammatory part if you have one.

anything that contain beta carotene is anti inflammatory. yellow flesh sweet potatoes definitely contain beta carotene.

I've always wanted to try growing Daikon radishes, you know, those great big radishes? Supposed to be mild. I should get a new Baker Creek order going. LOL

OK, I just ordered some seeds...

I like daikon radishes but my soil (and probably climate) is not suitable for them.

just bought seeds: radishes (supposed to be somewhat bigger red balls), cayenne and red jalapeno peppers. last time I bought red jalapeno pepper seed I got sweet peppers instead of hot. I watered them a lot so maybe that was the reason.

In my experience, the meaner you are to your peppers, the hotter they are. Also, if you pick jalapenos early, they are much milder than if you pick them later.

Last year we grew rat tail radish. This is grown for the seed pods, not the root. Pick seed pods before they mature. They are crunchy and pretty hot- they taste like a radish. I read that you can pickle them, so we did, but they were just ok. So yesterday I dumped them out bc we weren’t going to eat them. It smelled pretty bad (all were still sealed) bc of some sulphuric compound.

I haven't been on BYC much, if at all for a while now because I just didn't really have anything to contribute.

This news should fit here quite well, though:
WE ARE FINALLY GETTING CHICKENS THIS YEAR!!!! We are working on the chicken coop, and I placed my chicks order last night!!!!!!!! I got Cream Legbars, Black Copper Marans (one will be a rooster), and Lavender Orpingtons! I'm just so excited that I woke up about an hour and ten minutes before my alarm and couldn't fall back to sleep because I was thinking about the coop and run and chicks! We have 3 weeks before the chicks will arrive, and are planning on making a really good chunk of progress on the coop today! It has been about 4 years since I decided I wanted chickens, but they kept getting pushed aside for more important expenses, so, if you can't tell, I AM SUPER EXCITED!!! :wee :celebrate :jumpy :bun

In gardening, I have leeks, cabbages, all of my peppers, rosemary, and artichokes started inside. Almost all of the peppers have come up, and half of the leeks are up while half were started from seed yesterday. I've been using SeedTime to help with the scheduling of everything, and that was SUPER helpful. I visited my aunt and uncle in FL the other month, and tried to raise some cuttings from their rosemary plant, but those died. So I had to buy seeds, and I'm super excited for those! Tons of fungus gnats in the grow room, but I'm not terribly certain what to do about it. I saw a small spider come out of one of the pots and cheered it on, but that's about all I can do while starting seeds that need moist soil... unless anyone has any suggestions?

Anywho, this post is really long now, so I'll sign off. I hope everyone is doing well and excited/prepared for this gardening season!🪴☘️

How did you do the chips? I love radishes; I’ve sautéed them with onions and cabbage, salt
N pepper. Super yum. I also like them raw in coleslaw.
I sliced them thin on the mandolin, seasoned & just threw them in the air fryer. Thew flew around in there, lol, but the crisped up & were delish!
Thinking I want to buy another Greenstalk... 🤔
Of course you do :gigthey are addicting. They usually have a really good mothers day sale. They're expensive & they're always doing a good sale so I only buy when I don't have to pay full price.
I finally got the gooseberry and currant bed cleaned up, pruned the bushes, and staked them to make picking the berries easier. I could hardly get my hands in to pick any last season. The garlic that I finally got planted last week are coming up like crazy now. The asparagus that I started from seed 4 years ago are starting to produce now but they aren't too impressive. Might be my fault, I probably didn't feed them enough. The sugarsnap pea bed is cleared and planted with seedlings, one of them is starting to twine around the strings already.
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEEEEEN??? I'm so happy to see you, I've missed you! :hugs

I'm so mad at the weather people - they straight up LIED. It got so cold last night, low 20s (if not upper teens, I slept late). I would have covered my brand spankin new strawberries. :hitI'm going to be so mad if they all die. They are frozen solid with no cover.

How long do they hold up in the sun? All my newer pots are disintegrateing after 10 years
