I have quite a few cinderblock left by the previous owner. I think it makes more sense to use them for raised beds, because I checked my cedar plank when the rain stopped & it will definitely look better on my wall inside my house. Cinderblock seems to be the way to go for the garden, especially since it's already here.Building new raised beds today. Well, David is. I'm sitting on the sidelines while he moves these bricks. I will help shovel, fill and plant. I'm still weak from being sick. Whatever this is, it's kicking my boo honey.
This is on my To Do list for tomorrow. Come hell or high water, they will have a permanent home by tomorrow night!I feel you with the flower placement. I have no idea where to put my canna lilies either.I want to see them, and not have them die back early due to poor watering habits outside of my food gardens.
This is a great idea, both how you're growing them and pickling them. I love everything pickled and love canning pickles. That's funny. I'm growing some for the first time this year because I got free seeds & I can squeeze them in between plants. DH likes them so I can put them on his salads too & I'm sure the chickens will be happy if they get them.
I might like them pickled. I like everything pickled.![]()
Regarding currants, I have a lot of black currant twigs in dirt rooting right now. I'm going to plant a patch of them somewhere on my place when the twigs are ready to transplant.I finally got the gooseberry and currant bed cleaned up, pruned the bushes, and staked them to make picking the berries easier. I could hardly get my hands in to pick any last season. The garlic that I finally got planted last week are coming up like crazy now. The asparagus that I started from seed 4 years ago are starting to produce now but they aren't too impressive. Might be my fault, I probably didn't feed them enough. The sugarsnap pea bed is cleared and planted with seedlings, one of them is starting to twine around the strings already.
Once they're established they spred easily from any branch that touches the ground. At least this is true of my red ones. I'll probably let them take over the raised bed they're in. The red ones make lovely jelly, I should try the black ones too.Regarding currants, I have a lot of black currant twigs in dirt rooting right now.
