What did you do in the garden today?

It really is nice seeing how you are so excited about gardening this year @Sueby. You’ve been through a lot this past year.
It is redic how excited I am to garden again. :gig Of course it won't be all I wanted to do, my restrictions are till June 1. But it's a start!
Oh well, still better than a heavy snow.
That's what I'm saying! We are dodging a bullet here.
This is what I woke up to. No gardening today.

I was just coming in to ask you what you were getting. Glad to hear it's changing to rain. Just a little further north & they are getting slammed.

Pouring here, lots of rain coming. I'm chilling out today, i've done too much the last couple days. The dog & I will watch movies today.

I had extras from a christmas recipe - I put them in the air fryer & made chips, they were SO good! & I don't even like radishes. LOL
I grew some as companion plants but was just gonna feed them to the chickens. Maybe I'll try them. David likes them but I could never really eat them other than very thinly sliced garnish on a pinto bean soup.

I am trying two different types this year in a desperate bid to find one we both like. Lol

That's funny. I'm growing some for the first time this year because I got free seeds & I can squeeze them in between plants. DH likes them so I can put them on his salads too & I'm sure the chickens will be happy if they get them.

I might like them pickled. I like everything pickled.

I’m cold just looking at that. Is there more on the way?
Oh my goodness! Definitely an indoor seed starting day for you at best! Yeah here in SoCal we were hit with a sheet of rain at 5am and we have been pounded ever since. These little guys love being out in the rain when everyone else is hiding inside.

I've always wanted to try growing Daikon radishes, you know, those great big radishes? Supposed to be mild. I should get a new Baker Creek order going. LOL

I’m in AZ so we should be getting that rain soon. @Wee Farmer Sarah is the one who got all that snow.

How did you do the chips? I love radishes; I’ve sautéed them with onions and cabbage, salt
N pepper. Super yum. I also like them raw in coleslaw.

We also have PLC. Apparently, the best thing is to spray Copper fungicide mixed with dormant oil late fall, and early spring before there is any change in the growth or tips. I read the copper instructions and you can spray quite a bit during the season too.
Yeah that's very good practice. I usually do two copper sprays on the peaches but this season I was not able to get the spray done right when the leaves dropped. I've read that's the most crucial time to spray if you have plc. As the copper fungicide gets into the leaf node cuticles before they heal over the existing spores that will infect the new leaves. That tree that has no leaf curl, I shook and forced all the leaves to drop two years ago and sprayed it. Then pruned it like I would a young tree, for form, rather than for fruit yield. So I took off almost all of the fruiting wood that year. Then sprayed it again before bud swell.

This year that tree is a bumper crop, and no leaf curl. The tree next to it will get the same treatment this year I think. I was sick so much over the dormant season that I never got the timing to apply my sprays. It took me three weekends to just get the trees pruned, which I usually get done in two days. Too much other stuff going on with family and my small human starting school.

I'll get it back under control. It'll just take time and persistence.

Teenage girls these days are ridiculous. My niece is 15 and almost anything anyone says to her she isn't paying attention all all. Lots of "wait, what?" Always in her own world. Always on her smartphone. When you can get her out of that world she's amazing, creative, and hard working. Very hard to catch that version of her though. I'm glad we didn't have social media or smartphones when I was that age. We played paintball, rode our bikes, explored the creek, and built things. Sometimes played the N64 when it was raining but even then we rode our bikes in the rain and went on adventures. If course it was safer to do that back then I guess.

Yeah. I actually do like Daikon. I always forget it's a radish. Our roommate cooks Korean and it's great in her stir fry
