What did you do in the garden today?

Well, DH DESTROYED the insect netting I had over the cukes when he was mowing. I had to end up taking the whole thing down. Now I need to come up with another way to keep the SVB from bothering them later in the spring. I have them in a raised bed cow panel trellis.

On the positive side, I found a place to plant the 3 remaining canna lilies that I started from seed.

Now I just have to figure out where to put the purple heart plants that my neighbor gave me.

My lilacs are in full bloom, somebody told me they need to be trimmed after blooming, I haven’t trimmed them for the last 30 years, but…the white one is so tall I can no longer reach the flowers 😅

I love lilacs. When we lived in Connecticut the yard next to ours had mature lilacs along the property line, up to the second story windows. The property line was only about 4' from the house, and my kitchen had green shade through the windows.

They won't grow here. :(

I was just coming in to ask if I need to cover my peach tree. We have a frost advisory for the next couple nights & it's got flowers blooming, they've been out for a week or 2. Not sure at what stage in the bloom they'd be ok. Anyone know?
We just covered the blueberry bushes and the two cherry trees. One of the trees has about half of the flowers open. We'll be doing this again on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I think.

The peach blossoms can handle light frost. Temperatures of 27F or lower can cause damage. I noticed my peach tree has held off opening more blossoms so as long as the rest of the buds stay closed I should have a good harvest.

I put garbage bags over the blueberry bushes. It took 20 minutes, and I'll take them off again in the morning. The bushes are LOADED with buds; some that are in the "pink stage," and lots that are a week or so before that.

We put sheets over the cherry trees; it doesn't provide total coverage, but hopefully it traps some warm air to keep the blossoms safe.

Me too! Even as a kid. Always disliked sodas, too. Nasty! Like drinking acid. Then I saw a guy pour it over battery terminals & watched the corrosion get "bubbled" off...no way am I putting that acid into my stomach! 😂 I'm sure I drove adults nuts if we visited, I'd only drink well water, iced tea & lemonade made proper, not from a box, or the natural apple juice, not the ultra processed garbage. I'd drink Ginger ale IF it was real, not that artificial, commercialized, phony crap 99% of the grocery stores carry. It makes a difference, in how you feel, plus the way your mouth & teeth feel.

I also use coke to clean rusty nails, etc. much cheaper than chemicals.

I cut milk thistle jungle and will make raised beds with a sitting area. rain keeps me inside.
