What did you do in the garden today?

I am dead tired. Four straight days in the yard. Over 9k steps on each day. Mild sunburn on one spot I couldn't reach on my shoulder and then I forgot to do my armpits, discovered that you can indeed get a sunburn in your armpits if your arms are stretched out all day. 🤣

I got almost everything in the ground. Still have pumpkins that need to go in and random herbs. I ran out of steam today, it was 87° and the sun was mean. Just being in the direct sunlight was painful, even with a UV shirt on.

A few photos. I got 40+ tomatoes in the ground today. All the peppers, marigolds, just need to direct sow stuff now. And the pumpkins/herbs that I need to plant still. 20240421_165800.jpg 20240421_165719.jpg 20240421_165723.jpg 20240421_165728.jpg 20240421_165736.jpg

The peach blossoms can handle light frost. Temperatures of 27F or lower can cause damage. I noticed my peach tree has held off opening more blossoms so as long as the rest of the buds stay closed I should have a good harvest.
Thank you. I ended up covering it & we got down to 26. We have a frost warning again tonight, they mentioned a freeze too, so I'll just leave it covered. Hopefully this is the last hoorah this year!

It did get cold last night! Hope everyone's gardens fared out OK. I think we only went down to 38 here near the water. I felt cold all night, despite having the heat on. I got accustomed to those 68 degree days fast. Apparently, this little cold snap will be most nights this coming week, Northern states have frost warnings. 🥶
I lucked out, good thing, I was too busy with Henny to worry about blueberry blossoms.

My little Henny, she was egg bound yesterday & looked about ready to keel over. Well, this morning she was standing, walking, eating & drinking. She still isn't quite herself. I hung out with her til bedtime, I was concerned, never had a chicken leave mealworms & fresh chickweed alone before. There may be something else going on with her so I will give her TLC & some meds. She may have coccidiosis.

My peach tree is dropping peaches regularly... First it was 1 a day. Now it's up to 4 - 5 per day. I had a lot on it though. Hopefully this is normal? This is my first time owning and growing peaches so I don't know... I don't need a bumper crop but I was hoping to enough for a pie and maybe freeze some.

Weatherman is calling for lots of rain later this week. How much do you want to bet that it'll probably rain once? 😂

OK, just read that this type of fruit drop is completely normal. Apparently the tree can lose up to 80% of its fruit naturally and still be considered normal. The tree is diverting it's resources to stronger specimens.

Good to know.

This, of course, is outside of environmental factors (too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry) or pest/disease that can also cause fruit drop. Given that the fruit I picked up from the ground looks completely normal, I think it was related to normal fruit drop.

I know if you have too many the fruit is smaller and can break branches
