What did you do in the garden today?

I agree! Watching people enjoy great food, and sharing food, is a good feeling. And home-made bread takes such effort that I think it's one of those things most people don't bother with. My mum used to make sourdough overnight every week, 2-4 loaves.

I just make this recipe because it's really easy and fast. :p But I used to bake sourdough a lot too. But I kept not baking frequently enough to properly maintain the starter.

A slice of fresh baked bread with a little butter and salt is one of my favorite things to eat still.

I love to hear about people making their own bread : ). It is such a pleasure to see people enjoy eating. And I am no expert! I've always baked, and sometimes bread, especially in the winter and for holidays. But it truly is not as difficult as people think. Especially if you have a couple of great recipes.
I used to bake a lot when the kids were little. Never had an empty cookie jar. Even baked biscuits for the dogs and sold the bucuits in our stores. But i just have not been up for it in the last few years. Too much going on.

Hi all, today I counted my Mandarin oranges still hanging on to my tree. I ha very 8 this year! Yippee

Last year I ended up with one the size of a cherry that was all seed, LOL

As my tree ages I'm hoping better turnouts. Although it was covered in blossoms we were hit with sustained winds so flowers and new fruit blew away. I think I'll put a net over it next spring.

I managed some tomatoes and green beans before the first heat wave of the season came through.

My buoganvilla, lantana, potato vines, and Golden Bell are all doing great and bloom pretty much all year round. They keep the hummingbird coming in the yard.

Hi @black_dove2 ! SoCal? Nice! I don't know much about growing citrus. Lived down south Texas for a while, where they grow them, but never tried myself. Most fruit trees take a few years to get really productive though. I got zero fruit this year from pears or plums, due to early warm up and bloom, then late windy ice storms. Just as well I guess. With all our rain, I think everything would have split, molded or died anyway.

Me too! I love to bake, both goodies and bread, rolls, etc. I've cut way down in recent years though, as we certainly don't need to be eating a bunch of desserts and baked goods all the time. I usually wait for special occasions to bake (though every now and then I can't help myself and bake something for no real reason other than we want a treat). The last dessert I made was some rhubarb mini tarts a month or two ago. Hubs thought he didn't like rhubarb, but changed his mind after eating the tarts - lol.

Mandarin oranges? How exciting! Oh, don't you hate it when the wind/rain knocks the baby fruit off the trees? I always feel disheartened when I find baby apples all over the ground after a storm! Is your tree relatively young? Glad to hear your other thing are growing well.

Nothing like fresh baked bread! Years ago, someone gave me a little container of starter for, I think it was called "friendship bread" or something like that. You could make breads, cakes, and other goodies from it. I really loved it, but I stopped adding to the starter after awhile. I think I may actually still have the recipe for the starter (and things you can make from it) - I should really check to see if I can find it!

So can anyone suggest a reason my two tomato plants are wilting? The bottom branches are turning black and drying up. I am not sure if they might be getting too much water. Our soil has high clay content so maybe it is too wet. I can get pics tomorrow.
Tomatoes are vines. Crown clip the tops and the bottom will grow more, spread out so to speak. Lots of nitrogen they thrive on as well. I like to pot mine. So I can control root/soil moisture as well. Clay is not too much of a root development prob as much as a moisture retainer.

I'm originally from corpus Christi Texas and lived in Rio grande valley for a while.

My tree is about 7 years old now, that why I'm thinking if not such a strong wind at the wrong time?

Pears and plums? I've have the fruitless plum tree and the flowers were beautiful!

I've always ask if they can built pipelines and gas lines across a continent why can't they send some water across country in same manner. I've been told some of the funniest reasons why not.

Baking! I haven't in a while. This last winter was my first attempt in ages to try to recall some of my mother's recipes. I finally got my pumpkin empanadas right! Yippee
