What did you do in the garden today?

My Standard Poodle used to kill every snake she saw. My Shepherd just likes to catch things and sniff. Them. She is one big nose with legs.

My parents had a dog that would shake a snake right out of it's skin. You didn't want to be any where near her when she caught a snake. My dog is also a long legged nose. When we come home, she greets us, then immediately runs outside so she can sniff where our feet have been! But, she's pretty useless for pred control. She has a pretty tight rein with her E-collar due to the lay out of our property. And only recently has she gotten to the point where she can be trusted not to chase chickens. She mostly likes to chase bugs.

I am so mad at myself! I came home, put the dogs out, ate supper then went to check the guineas.View attachment 1091160 This was in the brooder! 4 guineas dead, 3 inside the snake and one laying on the brooder floor. I have only myself to blame. I chased it off yesterday. Had a thought, gee maybe I should put another latch on there. But thought it was pretty tight, no gaps visible.
:barnie:he:mad: :hit

Crap. I'm so sorry. Did you end the snake?

I've not been well today - over doing it. So haven't been on. Thanks for thinking of me.

My dog will chase anything that runs. But, she will stop and come back when I call her. Brought me a live baby rabbit one day.

Hope you feel better soon. Hugs. How did the sale go? I did not kill the snake, it was just doing what snakes do. My fault. I will relocate him tomorrow.

 I seriously have no idea! And hubby just shakes his head in dismay. I think the SG is defective. It really couldn't be me that has a problem! I am left eye dominant, and right hand dominant, I can't close one eye, so... I think that when I'm aiming, that I'm totally off target. He's going to set up a target for me this weekend, or perhaps some evening, and see if he can help me trouble shoot my aiming problem (pun intended). He even bought me a Jr. sized SG to help with my issue. I did take down 2 GH with the old SG, but, so far am at 0% with this SG. Will spend some time working with a pellet gun, or a .22, and see if I can figure out what my issue is. He did take down a nasty sick coon full of porcupine quills with this SG, so... I know that the shells go where he wants them to go!!
I'm left eye dominant and shoot right handed. I've seen people with the same actually use their left eye to aim head cranked up over gun, you don't want to do that lol.
Best to switch to shooting left handed but I didn't.
I just squint my left eye slightly and the right will take over, can successfully shoot open eyed with gun or bow by doing that.

Gardens looking great, picking tons of cukes and the zukes are producing now, yellow squash are about ready. Peas done, beans soon. Lots of kale (Love kale omelets) swiss chard almost ready to pick. Maters are getting huge but none ripe yet (mouth drooling in anticipation..)
For those like me usually over run with zucchini, my FIL chunked and pickled some last yr. They were surprisingly really good and crispy also.

I shoot right handed, well I did ,
I was right eye dominant, could shoot either right or left hand.
right eye went blind, so now I am left eye dominant by default.
I don't shoot much anymore.
wife got a little upset when I took a shot at a cottontail, missed, the bullet ricocheted and went through the chicken coop window. whoops .. my bad.:old:oops::lau.

So sorry to hear about your guineas, Cap. How sad! I assume they were young ones? I haven't seen even one snake since we bought our house (about 5 years ago). We do have garter snakes in MN, but haven't seen any here. Our dog is pretty good at catching anything inside the fencing. He has killed several rabbits and mice, and even a few rats from the field. He's a rescue mutt, but looks like he may have some Jack Russell in him - he's a great hunter!
