What did you do in the garden today?

Which variety are you planting? English lavender is more cold hardy. The French lavender I had in containers did well as long as I brought onto my front porch to overwinter. Those plants were drowned from all the rain last summer but one of them is actually coming back to life. The lavender I planted with the oregano and grapevines on the slope are doing well. One of them is getting ready to bloom. I got sidetracked earlier and didn’t make it over to the rock garden. I put coir and straw around my fingerling potatoes. Then I went to check on the green bean plants and summer squash. They’re doing very well. Did a little weeding in there. Did some work clearing the path then worked on clearing around the grapevines. Needless to say, breakfast is now Brunch.

I have tried every single type of lavender ever grown. It hates me. Next time I go to the garden store I'll pick up another tho. I always do, then I swear off it, then I try again.

It's only 11 & I have gotten so much done. I love my new back electronics, my back is hanging in there like a trooper!

I cleaned out & bleached the garden shed & everything it in (stupid mice). I got out the critter waterer. Cleaned the coop. Cleaned up the deck & the yard, put all sorts of stuff away. Cleaned the potting table. Planted some sunflower seeds that I got on clearance yesterday. Got some more cardboard down in the garden, will spread chips on that after brunch (just like @Wee Farmer Sarah, I got carried away).

Resting today. Looks like rain anytime. Radar says it is raining. My coneflowers germinated poorly which is normal. Same for Hollyhocks.

Good news! I finally have female canteloupe and squash flowers!

The Canteloupe flowers have already bloomed, so I hand pollinated them with 2 male flowers each. I then left the male parts in the middle of the flowers where the pollen is placed so that the pollen is less likely to be washed away by the rain we are getting now. There are 3 in total, but only 2 are open at the moment.

The female squash flowers will obviously take alot longer to bloom.

Same.... I've tried 3 or 4 different types. Seeds and established plants. It always dies...usually in Year 1. This one is going on Year 2 so MAYBE it's a good sign...

The grandkids came over for a couple of hours. I got some weeding done around the big potato garden then put down more straw. I put the kids to work planting flowers, mint and tarragon seeds in pots. Planned for leftovers for dinner so I’ll have time to make a chocolate cake.

I’m not sure if you want to go through what @Sueby did to get those special “electronics.” Last work in the garden today. I finally planted the clematis. I put it where it can grow on the lattice around the grandkids little garden. Then I planted a pot of marigolds. I think that’s enough for one day.

A side note. I know I mentioned it here a couple of months ago about leaving my gardens intact and no clean up after the growing season. I learned that this was a method of “enriching” the garden soil. It seems to have worked. I haven’t used any fertilizers yet and the plants are thriving. Fingers crossed it continues.

Where do you get this “back electronics “. I’m in need of some and knee electronics

I have a spinal cord stimulator implanted, it's 2 electrical leads in my epidural space & a battery pack just below my waist. It sends out electrical impulses that confuse/interrupt the pain signals to the brain. It's been a life saver. I also have hardware from previous surgeries. You can see some of it in this pic.
