What did you do in the garden today?

I watered Lettuce yesterday.

In the old days we used to grow Pot in the woods, and vegetables on our porch. Now we grow Cannabis on the porch - and Vegetables in the woods (though not sure lettuce is a vegetable).

And they even came up with a trendy name ... "Wild-crafting".

If I ever go back to Silicon Valley - I can put that on my resume. ("oh, yeah, I do WILD-CRAFTING." "YOU'RE HIRED ! ! !")

Anyway, my property is about 1900 feet long with about a 600 foot rise. Seems I got some of the steepest land in the county.

For half of the garden spots I added ropes to the path, after falling one too many times.

The one time I tried to encourage the chickens to come look at the apple trees on the hillside etc. ... the hawks attacked them.

My pullets are jumping up on top of their gazebo & destroying the darn gazebo cover. Hey, you dingbats...that's what provides shade & rain cover. Darn kids! 🙄

Look at the expression..."Huh? Don't know what you're talkin bout mom."

I get that and the hair hurts, and glasses hurt thing too. In fact, my eye caruncles are swollen right now.
A few people see my eyes & slowly back away....probably think I've got pink eye! 😆

Well, I got to be 1st in line at Dollar General. Thanks swollen caruncles! 😆 🤣 😂

My knee let me weed eat perimeter of garden and few areas.
DS bought this electric weed eater for my birthday. It is wonderful except a lil on big and heavy side. My last electric from Ace lasted 2 years and had internal battery and only let me weed eat 30 min. This one - well I haven’t gotten to end of battery charge 😂
I found the squash bugs must have snuck in during rain storms. But they are still healthy and producing. I sprayed them down and we are starting more seeds. Look at this triple squash!!
I found amaranth in my burn pile!
Everything else is thriving so much the bugs, Ik are there, aren’t destroying! Very thankful!

DH has swollen eyes & has been sneezy. I've got sore throat, mucus, swollen eyes, flushed face & neck, hives that come & go (some came back), wheezing asthma & overall puffy, itchy, swollen body. It's bad this morning! We've gotten No rain to wash the air. The truck is coated in yellow pollen. Oh well, it is what is. Thank goodness for the herbal concoctions & teas, honey, Allegra & Benedryl. Oh & the menthol cough drops & asthma inhaler to stop that annoying itchy, raspy constant cough. At least my eyes have not completely swelled shut. It's just brutal when that happens.

This morning I watered the gardens. Something is going on with a few tomato plants...curled or cupped leaves? Any suggestions?

I am battling this w some too. I’ve tried calcium and fed the plants. They are NOt dying and still producing. I hope it’s not glysophate that was in potting soil or pine chips I’ve used! 😱

Yeah I am wondering...I've reacted badly to the poison they sprayed days ago...well maybe my tomatoes are reacting to the same crap. 😠 Ok...spraying toxic crap affecting me is bad enough, But Lord help anyone messing with flock & garden. 😆 Yeah, I'm just joking here right now, but really, it isn't funny...that crap has really messed me up this past week. Sad part, I can't do diddly squat about it.

Well that's the nice thing about chicken lovers.

If you post a photograph of a garage floor covered in chicken poop and hay, they understand.

A few years ago my previous coops were rejected and I let the birds live in the garage "temporarily".

Well every bird is really like a slow motion bomb.

I don't know if I was quick enough with the camera to get a picture of what happened when they deliberately attacked a box that had Styrofoam. And then ANOTHER.

After one of those attacks on my stored item, it was like the Blood scene in the Shining, except with Styrofoam.

I think they get slightly drunk on it. And because it's white they think it's food.

This relates to another one of my semi-professional interests - quantifying the energy output of a chicken size 6 pound bird.

In chemistry they have Calorimeters to measure the heat output of a substance when burned.

But how do you measure the energy output of a live chicken ?

Anyway, I think you could model an "average chicken" as a 5 to 15 watt electric motor and not be far off. Of course the motor is not continuous and needs to rest.
