What did you do in the garden today?

DH took down the old wooden pallet compost bins that were rotting & put up the new plastic ones I got. Some corrugated shed siding in between the pallets & fence so it doesn't rot the fence out. My compost is already looking pretty good.
Nice set up! And yes, it's looking good!

I need to get my compost turned. I'm SO bad about it. But I noticed a squash of some sort, growing in my emptied compost ring - and I kind of want to leave it grow and see what it is. It's the healthiest plant on my property!

Had one of those monster, great plains, mother ship storms at dusk last night.
It brought 10 minutes of 64 mph winds and driving rain, almost 2 inches.
If we had had hail in that of any size, we'd have been shredded.
Just rain this time.
We lost two branches on a birch tree, but they weren't huge.
The cloth around the garden fence saved the garden.
After the storm was stunning, the colors surreal.
Spent the whole morning moving the remaining 50 bales of hay from the shed bank to the barn, which leaves me a WHOLE barn to fill with this years hay, I hope!View attachment 3857429
Stunning sky photo...looks alien! Like a gold planet sky, too cool, thanks for sharing.

Ditto that! Healthiest plants are in the compost area! 😆 I had a similar looking squash appearance leafy thing growing...I let it grow, but it turned out to be a weed. No squash, but it did produce a white flower that closed up at dusk.

Not saying yours is a weed...I think we've all had veggie plants pop up in the compost at times. Mine are mostly potatoes & tomatoes.

I have showered and navaged, and yet, the hayshed is getting its revenge. The tubes in my ears are on FIRE and hurt clear down my neck. OMG
This allergy season SUCKS.
It sure does! This morning my eyelids were sealed shut. Cleaning my eyes, I had literally "gunk strings" & I promptly got grossed out.

That's actually funny...the gal that can clean a bird's bum of mites (I became an interesting topic at a friend's picnic, as I tended to their turkey), always analyzing flock poo (cecal doesn't even make me gag anymore), & can stitch up a hawk attack injury, & hack up & spits out allergy phlegm like a rough & tough dude, but still gets grossed out about anything relating to eyeballs 👀. 😆 🤣 😂

Good morning & happy Sunday gardeners! We seem to be going through a dry spell here, so watering (& weeding of course) & cutting grass later, are on the agenda (raise the blade to 3 inches since my nutsedge & Bermuda grass lawn is brown already...well, the white clover & the minimal grass parts are green 🍀).

I overheard some news while checking weather...heard some random complaints of lantern flies, but I haven't seen any here, yet. I have seen stink bugs & of course the no see'ums, skeeters, flies & ticks. A few Japanese Beetles were on Magnolia flowers but a little flick, they fall & my chickens go into action! (Very entertaining 😊 )

A video popped up on my phone, a newsy clip, they were talking about Joro spiders. Well, a few of the photos were of Golden Orbs...our wonderful yellow & black garden spiders that are considered to be very beneficial. The Golden Orb was actually on a cover of Organic Gardening magazine in the 90s, as being a gardener's friend.

Well, Newspeople, the average Joe will go on a Golden Orb killing spree now, you stupid idiots. If they're gonna report something, at least get the photos right! 😡

Joro & Golden Orbs may be related, but they are different, & really while the Joro is from Asia, it is nothing to get freaked out over. They tend to mind their own business & wait for prey to come to them, as most spiders do. They are Not roaming the earth, sailing around on web strands & breezes, seeking out humans to attack.

Thought I'd post this info.

Not much happening here, were supposed to have a bit of rain but they've been saying that for days & I haven't seen any yet.

I'm about to give up on melons this year. I started so many seeds & none sprouted so I went & bought starts & they are literally just sitting there doing nothing but maybe turning a little yellow. I had my soil tested recently & it's perfect. I topped with some compost in spring. Melons were what I was most excited for this year now that I have the room for them. :hit

Everything else is doing great.

I’m also having issues. It’s a bit annoying!
