What did you do in the garden today?

G’morning all. Watered the melons yesterday and the other raised beds with no plants to help stuff break down. Made mud puddles for the chickens and gave them some lettuce, then gave myself a buzz cut. It’s just way too hot, already sick of it and summer isn’t even here yet. Yesterday was cloudy and the air was very still and heavy but we had like 5% humidity. Think I waited too long to move the pepper plant, it dropped all its leaves so I tossed it. Dragon fruit is doing really well, I need to get hubs to make the top supports this weekend. I switched from masterblend for those to liquid nutrients and they mix into the water so much easier. I’m still nursing a basil plant that I have on a windowsill in the laundry room but I’ve been wanting to get some Thai basil going too so that’s on my list for next year. My dill did so much better in the shade garden so that’s where I’m going to put the Greenstalk next spring.

Anyone ever used this before? I've never heard of it... I bought it to try... View attachment 3862259

Just got a bag of that too...many positive things are said about it, especially how safe it is with our flocks, so yeah, I'm giving it a try as well. 👍

Right by my back door in laundry room, ready to go! (If it's right there by the door, I will remember it. Drives DH nuts 🤣
Don't trip or stub your toe honey!)

Lots of weed pulling & watering lately, & this darn air quality sucks again with asthma, I could see the haze in the air all yesterday. Where is the rain? Seems to miss us every time. 😢
Well, I am behind most of y'all but I am picking fresh blueberries 🫐 daily! Yum!!!

😥 I weeded and weed eated. Pulled my grandson’s sunflower accidentally so I had to cut the weeds down in containers after that.

There is some very satisfying with pulling weeds and giving to chickens to process!
Ethel going to work!
It’s already time to mow again in some places!
My corn is tasseling so they like the weeding and food. Gave garden a long drink bc we are supposed to have a scorcher today. If they are calling it scorcher now, what will it be in August?

I tried making dried green beans for a snack and they turned in to jerky! 😮 😂 I can’t put these on and leave!

I use lime in burying animals and pickling (only pickling lime). I use DE like yall are using the lime. Let me know how it works- love the DE especially in the crowder area.

When we were having feral colony spayed we were only ones wo mites so it does work w that!

I'm going to dust it around inside my hoop house. I get constant battles in there with slugs, tiny grasshoppers, and now moths...

DE over time will kill your soil. Things will refuse to grow in it and insects and worms move away.
I have places we DE'd for the alpacas and it's been 8 years and still no sign of life. The first place we had our tiny chicken coop 10 years ago. and only for 8 months, was still dead in September this year even after replacing soil. I finally just bricked it in.
So tread lightly.

Tractor hay mower is ready to run, after I grease it up OC. Now we wait on 4, preferably 5 HOT dry days in a row.
