What did you do in the garden today?

Japanese beetles are causing havoc. They've hit my Catawba grapes and canna lilies really hard. They both are all in tatters... Then they moved on to my raspberries and strawberries. Going to have to spray tonight, no question. I'll also pick up some trap bags this afternoon... And begin my daily hunt with the soap water bucket.

A friend visited recently who's really into integrating mushrooms with gardening (I think she even gives lectures on it down in Texas), and she brought me some gifts so I could try it out. So I've gone through my beds today, inoculating promising areas with spawn. She'd already spread some before she left, so as I was working I found little surprise mushrooms here and there. It was like an extra tasty Easter egg hunt - I'll take mushrooms over chocolate any day of the week!

Wow, it took me awhile to catch up. I’ve been super busy this week and super stressed. I have some major dental work happening on Monday and I’ve been trying to get stuff done before that happens. Nearly done prepping the pumpkin patch. My sugar snap peas are blooming and growing. I tasted one this morning but it’s got a little farther to grow. I have two more heads of lettuce growing in with the peas. I’m trying to give them another day or two before I pick them. My kale and chard are finally growing so I will have that soon. My winter squash and watermelon are struggling but I think they’ll be ok. Tomatoes are growing well now. I mowed the backyard yesterday. I need more gas for my garden tractor so I can do the front yard and old chicken yard. They’re calling for storms tomorrow evening then a heat wave predicted for next week. I rescheduled my pellet delivery until July. I’m done with dealing with my old window AC units and ordered a portable one to replace them. It arrives on Saturday. Yay! The bush green beans and summer squash on the hill are looking good and the grapevines are doing well. The vine in the middle is the largest and looking like it may produce some grapes this year. I bought a different sprinkler for them so I can focus the water on them more. I’m thinking I should wait until after the heat wave to plant the pumpkins and pepper plants. My growing season is way behind most of you so other than the potatoes and peas nothing spectacular.
