What did you do in the garden today?

I need to feed the tomatoes, but I spent 4 hours power washing the deck today. I did get them watered.
Tomorrow I need to power wash the lower deck. It's been 10 years, it's long overdue.
Hot hot hot hot and HUMID.
We'll be putting the disc mower on the back of the tractor and start watching for 4 or 5 rain free days in a row for hay cutting. I'm SO not in the mood to do it this year, but the hay shed is EMPTY, and there are only 40ish bales left in the barn.
The peas are growing nicely. I wonder if the heat is going to do then in though.

Today we were supposed to get rain. I felt a few drops. That was it. All the significant rain went elsewhere. I watered the heavy soil garden, thinking a little reverse psychology would help. Nope. I'll be watering the sandy soil garden tomorrow.

I also put some compost around the onion plants, to try to goose them a bit and get them to grow.

I did see this:

A couple days ago, I saw part of a potato plant that was wilting. I assumed some critter had eaten some of the roots.

Today when I was doing my potato beetle/egg hunt, I saw some frass and a hole in the stem of that plant. Since it was small and a volunteer growing in the middle of something else, I pulled it up and pulled apart the stem. I would have sworn it was a vine borer inside the stem. Do they attack potatoes? I've never seen one do that before.

It's a different one than squash bore... I think it is a weevil relative

I'm up to 4 cucumbers so far. Feels.... Lack luster when you see jars upon jars getting canned already. 🥴😂

I'm so envious of everyone growing asparagus! I'm not and without taking over the front yard, I won't be any time soon.

Today I finally finished the drip line for the pumpkins! Yes!!!! I do still have 4 garden beds to do.... But progress is progress!

I fertilized the tomatoes with tomato oriented fertilizer, sprayed with foliar calcium for good measure.

DS and I planted the rest of the green beans, one section left to plant amethyst green beans in; further away in the ground level tomatillo/cucumber bed.

I bought another 19" pot, can never have too many at my house apparently. Going to plant a tomato in it and some basil.

I bought three huge canna lilies at Home Desperate! They were on clearance... So I had to. I have no idea where to put them yet, but when has that ever stopped me?! 🤣 No, I think I'm going to put them with the rest, in front of the pool. I'm hoping they fill in and make a pretty "wall" around the pool. Though I will probably move them all.... It's hard to get the pool cover in place when you're trying not to smash them... But, I have some other spots in mind. 🤔

I also bought some more stevia plants, and some more basil. Can never have too much basil.

My cuckoo Marans is laying every day now, she started at 16 weeks, with a double yolk, poor girl. She's laid every day for the last week, 19 weeks old as of Tuesday. Australorp isn't laying yet, but that's more what I expected, Tinki caught me off guard laying so early.

Tomorrow will be a wash, going out to the property to work on stuff.
