What did you do in the garden today?

I use lime in burying animals and pickling (only pickling lime). I use DE like yall are using the lime. Let me know how it works- love the DE especially in the crowder area.

When we were having feral colony spayed we were only ones wo mites so it does work w that!
Totally different. The product says Lime on the package but it's actually citric acid. It's not the type of lime you are referring to....

Off today, so I made an early run to Aldi's for a few items. Saw these on the reduced section...why not?

I picked more bush green and wax beans. I've not planted a second crop as I don't want them to die while we're on vacation in about three weeks. I think I'll plant them the day before we leave.

Plum tomatoes

The German Johnson tomatoes are a little behind but I see small fruits developing.

I removed the plastic fencing from around the melon beds, added trellises:

I'm also trying something new, trimming the ends of the vines to stimulate side vines. It's supposed to help to keep them more contained. Supposedly. We'll see.

A couple of my hens have been trying to sneak out of the coop when I open the door. I was thinking about how my chicken sitter would handle that situation, and came up with a possible solution using the plastic fencing I'd removed from the melon area:

It's not predator proof, but a deterrent to keep predators out and chickens contained briefly if they sneak out.

Bee in squash blossom:

And my (mostly) annual garden:

Now I'm inside, as it's over 90° and the slight breeze is warmer than the air temperature...yep, summer is here.

DE over time will kill your soil. Things will refuse to grow in it and insects and worms move away.
I have places we DE'd for the alpacas and it's been 8 years and still no sign of life. The first place we had our tiny chicken coop 10 years ago. and only for 8 months, was still dead in September this year even after replacing soil. I finally just bricked it in.
So tread lightly.

Tractor hay mower is ready to run, after I grease it up OC. Now we wait on 4, preferably 5 HOT dry days in a row.
😮 I didn’t know that. I use it mainly on concrete area where outside cats gather and in chicken coop.

I watered a little this morning. Mostly the winter squash and peas. The forecast for storms just brushed past us and we only got .10 inch of rain. I will water the green beans and summer squash tomorrow then water the grapevines. I’ll likely harvest the sugar snap peas on Sunday morning. I don’t think I’ll have much time on Monday morning. The AC unit delivery has been pushed to Sunday. As long as it’s ready to go on Tuesday when the thermometer starts rising I’m fine with that.

Drove home from Costco with my windows down. HUGE HUGE mistake. Massive sinus headache. But I was out of water for my navage. First thing I did when I got home was rinse out my brain. Didn't work. HOT half hour shower helped a LOT. Now I'm sitting here with a sinus headache hangover.
Otherwise, the disc mower is already hooked up and waiting.
Felt like 100 today. Rinse and repeat for the next 4 days, with severe weather over night each night.

I think those who can use the navage would be immune to water boarding- or that’s how it felt to me
