What did you do in the garden today?

Does anyone grow potato onions, aka, multiplier onions? These are NOT the same as Egyptian Walking Onions.

You plant a bulb in the fall, and get 5-8 the next end-of-summer.

Supposedly, they aren't supposed to flower. Mine never have. Until this year. Just about every single one is flowering. I was wondering if cutting off the flower would make a larger set of onions. So I cut some off.

Then I started reading from this site.

specifically this page:

I'm going to collect seed from the flowers and try growing them next year. Just for fun, and the who knows factor.
These are what I planted, that bolted. I diced them and put them in the freezer. They are in the freeze dryer, now. Hmmm... Maybe I didn't need to.

I spent a couple hours hauling the hose around, watering.

The nice thing about that on a hot day is you can spray your pants/shirt to cool off! :)
I've gotten so hot I just doused my entire body, hose running on the top of my head, down the hot flashed back, over the red face, drink some cold hose water or swish in my mouth & spit out lol, I know I must look hilariously insane but wow, it feels wonderful! Wet clothes, when wet by hose water instead of sweat, are surprisingly refreshing to garden in. 😆

Was bloody hot & dry this past week, last night 8pm we had a cool wind blow in, dropped 25 degrees in minutes, then hail & sideways hard rain for about 45 min. It rained off & on all night. We needed the rain, but Everything was laying flat & blown over this morning. 😥 I went to work & just got home...many of the plants laying down have started to stand up, but it is getting hot again. I hope the plants bounce back. I know one thing...the ground should not have been this dry & grass this brown & crunchy (despite my cutting it higher) this soon. It was more like that last week in July, instead of mid June here. As I drove to work this morning I saw many farm fields irrigating, saving their crops. The 80 acres around my place does not irrigate & their fields look awful, not the usual lush corn or soy this time.

We're coming off 3 solid years of extreme drought, and two years of exceptional before that. We're finally green again, don't know for how long, but for now, green.

I just recieved my beneficial insects. The ladybugs look good. Very active. The directions recommend releasing in the early morning, so I put them in the fridge, along with the green lacewing eggs. I hope the impending heatwave isn't detrimental to them. Really hoping a lot of them stay on my property.
I had luck w my lady bugs - see them this year!
When we spray w neem etc are we killing our good insects too?

Could you keep the beneficial insects confined to your garden plants by draping a floating row cover over them?
