What did you do in the garden today?

Thank you. I thought that people were just calling a blackberry a black raspberry.
Plants look very similar. Berries look different. Stores carry black berries because they last longer in transport.

I didn't plant anything in the garden last year except wild flowers & this year the bugs have been very tame so far. I'm thinking my neighbors were on to something with their 7 year garden sabbath.
A friend of mine swears by tilling up the soil in the fall and early spring when there is nothing planted. She says it brings up the grubs and bugs for the wild birds to eat. I can see worth in this, though I don't till my garden hardly ever, so I don't disturb the worms.

My black raspberries have thorns. My blackberries have THORNS!

Thank you for the article. That now makes me want to get a black raspberry bush. Probably won't happen however I can always dream about getting one.
I have numerous black raspberry plants around my yard. They were all planted by the local birds. Lol!

I think I may have learned a good thing about garlic.

1. Add compost to the bed and work it in before planting garlic in the fall. I already knew this, but will just mention it.
2. When the plants are about 6" tall in the spring, sprinkle some blood meal around the bed.

My Music garlic usually has 4 big/huge cloves per head. Occasionally 5 cloves per head. This year, most have 5, and several heads have 6 and 7 cloves! Not all are the huge ones, but still! I will be using blood meal on my garlic next year, and also my multiplier onions. Maybe the EWOs too.
