What did you do in the garden today?

A few more feet and they'll run out of room. What happens when they have nowhere to climb?
They go up and wave in the wind! My trellis is 10ft tall. Several have topped that already. Once they get long enough, I climb up and toss them over and get them among the strings again.

I'll need my step ladder to pick the beans at the top. I'm guessing that if I don't keep up with picking the beans the plants will stop producing, correct?

My llama Dolly didn't come up this morning when I went out, so I went looking for her. Found her with her head stuck in the panel fence. I have no idea how she got her head in there, but I tried to pull/push her head to no avail.
So, I went to the shop and got my husband's cutters. I didn't know if I'd be strong enough to cut through the old panels over my head, but I managed to make one cut and slam the cutters handles into my face. Hurting my face, lip and front tooth. Figured damage was done so I made another cut to panel, keeping my face out of the way as good as I could and was able to push her head through.
Now I'm sitting with an ice pack on my face, but I already see a bruise, a cut and a fat lip - lovely.

Feels like 109? Sure does! 🥵

Well, summer garden is done. Prolonged heat stress has killed off almost everything. What the heat hasn't killed, the grasshoppers have finished off... Even the new corn seeds I just planted are disappearing overnight. The handful not yet taken are showing evidence of major flea beetle damage already and they are barely 4 inches high. Zinnias are crispy brown. Same with the dahlias. Moss rose is still blooming... Along with Mandevilla. That's about it... Even the hibiscus flowers are falling off without even opening.

Disappointing, for sure.

On a positive note, the new blueberry Greenstalk just arrived. I think I'll keep this one up by the house in the shade and plant some lettuce in it....

Dang, I'm sorry. Is the tooth ok? The rest will heal, eventually. A broken tooth is a bigger problem.

If I had a llama, I would also have named her Dolly. :thumbsup

I read an interesting article about the squash vine bores. The article said to start seeds indoors earlier than usual and it should coincide with the adults emerging therefore stopping the eggs from being laid. Another thing to try to repel them is to wrap the stem with aluminum foil or a bandage. I don't know that it works but I just thought I would post it for everyone that does deal with these menacing buggers.
