What did you do in the garden today?

My llama Dolly ...
I like it too. Dolly llama... :lau

I cut up a medium size winter melon and boiled half of it down. I strained the water that came out of the squash and mixed it with my ground up sour dough and fed it to my chickens. They seem to like it; it was all gone when I went to check up on them.

I made Thai flavored chicken soup with the other winter melon half. I have red chili peppers, lemon grass, lime, green onions, and galanga (Thai ginger) growing wild in my yard.
I fed the leftovers to some stray kittens hiding under my Lavander bush. This is my first time feeding stray kittens, my mother forbade us from feeding stray cats while we were growing up.

We have a lot of stray cats running around in my neighborhood. It's because my childhood friend's mother had over 20 of them before she passed away and I think they were abandoned and multiplied.

My llama Dolly didn't come up this morning when I went out, so I went looking for her. Found her with her head stuck in the panel fence. I have no idea how she got her head in there, but I tried to pull/push her head to no avail.
So, I went to the shop and got my husband's cutters. I didn't know if I'd be strong enough to cut through the old panels over my head, but I managed to make one cut and slam the cutters handles into my face. Hurting my face, lip and front tooth. Figured damage was done so I made another cut to panel, keeping my face out of the way as good as I could and was able to push her head through.
Now I'm sitting with an ice pack on my face, but I already see a bruise, a cut and a fat lip - lovely.
Llamas are a bit crazy and mischievous! Sorry about your face:hugs

Just got home from work, out in the sun all day. I'm grateful for a sun hat & sunscreen & Gatorade. I was peeling off sweaty clothes, about to change into fresh clothes to get all sweaty as I tend to my flock. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard a strange man's voice! It was a severe storm alert warning on my phone. 😆

Well, I don't know what kind of storm we are in for, but I really hope it does not demolish the veggie garden.

Brutal heat index today, can't believe I didn't pass out.

This morning was productive. I finished all the repairs on the littles run extension. I covered the hc at the bottom with dirt then the fine pine shavings. I attached a new door latch and cut a hole in the existing pen that gave them access to their new, larger pen. They are really enjoying it. Next up is to add an addition onto their existing coop for more square footage. After I did all that I picked green beans and my very first zucchini in 3 years. I had a really bad year with squash bugs and vine borers that I stopped planting squash altogether. Last year I planted later in the season and only got a few small winter squash and no summer squash. But no squash bugs either. This year I planted a little earlier than last and so far the plants are healthy and bug free. The other summer squash seem to be putting out baby squash. Yay! I also picked 3 carrots. One went to the chickens. I also got a few fingerling potatoes. Watered the big garden this morning and just finished watering the green beans and summer squash. Tomorrow I’ll water everything else in the morning. The chickens got another watermelon treat to cool down with. It’s 91F now but there is a breeze.

@Wee Farmer Sarah I didn't plant anything in the garden last year except wild flowers & this year the bugs have been very tame so far. I'm thinking my neighbors were on to something with their 7 year garden sabbath.

I went out briefly this am to turn the greenstalks & water the chickens, bees & critters, it's all I could do with my back.

I will water tomorrow am, hopefully. I know I have a lot that needs to be done out there.
