What did you do in the garden today?

We had rain overnight. I checked radar and it could have been a thunderstorm but I’m not sure. I have a mama hen who wasn’t smart enough to take the boys inside so they are wet. At least it’s not cold out there. Ducks were playing in the puddles so I’ll check the rain gauge when the sun comes up.

Morning all. Got some lettuce & spinach seeds out. I should see if I have an carrot seeds left. I'll plant more in another week or so - it's raining now. I mean, of course. That's all it does around here now.

1 of my 15 jars didn't seal, but I think that one was probably on me. My back said DONE as I was wiping the jars to go in the canner, I had made a mess & I was hurrying. & then I knocked one jar over twice taking them out. 🙄 So I guess I'm surprised I only had one fts. :gig

I'm thinking of planting beets for greens for us and chickens. Might try planting another row of green beans for fall as the grasshoppers are eating my blossoms off of my spring planted beans! as they come on. I'll leave carrots in till freeze and next year will plant in fall. They're kind of bitter to me. Squashes are dying off, not sure they're worth the real estate. It's too easy to get them from friends :celebrate :yesss: esp the zucchini.
I confess the garden has not been a priority this summer with DH having knee surgery, cataract x 2 , me with carpal tunnel surgery x2 ,flip house and in the middle of that we adopted a rescue 8 month old puppy.! Was supposed to be a mini poodle. Well that's half correct! He's a 35 # sheepadoodle:eek:. No shedding big goofball and prances with a BIG FLUFFY TAIL. You can see his prance in top photo. ( I just realized how messy my counter is in photo sorry, :barnie oh well it's canning season. ).View attachment 3921719His mamma put his one eye out while carrying him as a pup. So he's been there 3 months. Prolly cuz he's not a 1.5 year old miniature poodle like they advertised . DUHView attachment 3921718 View attachment 3921716
He looks like a sweet goofball!

I turned the soil in garden bed #2 in preparation to plant collards, but would love to work in more well-rotted compost before I transplant seedlings. I also pulled out the remaining stakes in the squash bed and turned the soil but didn't add anything else, yet. It's had beans, collards, and squash in the last two years, time to switch to carrots, chard, or turnips.

It's not really hot, but the sun was bothering me so I came in to cool down.
